SEQUIM — Battling the elements on a windy day, the Sequim and Klahowya softball teams combined for 30 hits and 35 runs, including 12 runs in the seventh inning alone, in a 19-16 slugfest Saturday won by the Eagles.
Sequim nearly pulled out an amazing come-for-behind win as Sequim went into the final frame down 19-11. Taylee Rome hit a three-run home run and Navaeh Owens followed with a two-run shot to bring the Wolves to within 19-16. Klahowya was finally able to get the final out to end the game, however.
The loss comes off a 12-5 Sequim victory Friday over Bainbridge. In the two games, Sequim belted a total of 28 hits.
Saturday was a wild back-and-forth affair that saw 11 combined errors. Sequim had a five-run first inning, but Klahowya had a four-run second and a six-run third. Sequim responded with a four-run fifth.
Klahowa built a huge lead with a seven-run top of the seventh. Still, it almost wasn’t enough.
Several Sequim players had huge days. Mia Kirner was 4-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBIs. Rome finished 4-for-5 to bring her season batting average to .621 (with four home runs and 15 RBIs). Owens was 2-for-4 with a double to go along with her home run, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Mikki Green was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Rylie Doig was 2-for-4 with a double, Kylie Winter was 1-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI and finally Grace Gardener had a double, a run scored and two RBIs.
Rylin Whitehead pitched five innings. She gave up 11 hits but just five earned runs.

BAINBRIDGE — Sequim scored six runs in the sixth and seventh innings to down Bainbridge 12-5 on Friday.
Rylin Whitehead had a big game with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. She also started the game in the circle, going three innings and allowing six hits and four earned runs while striking out three.
Rome came in to pitch the fourth and did an outstanding job, going four full innings and allowing just two hits and an earned run while striking out five.
At the plate, Rome was 2-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases two runs scored, a walk and an RBI. Kirner had a big game, going 2-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base.
Winter was 2-for-5 with a run scored, two stolen bases and an RBI while Green was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored. Hannah Giddings was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and a walk.
Sequim (1-6, 2-7) next hosts Bremerton (3-5, 4-5) at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Forks 16, Elma 14
ELMA — The Forks girls softball team survived a wild slugfest against Elma, holding on for a 16-14 victory Saturday.
The game featured 35 hits. Chloe Gaydeski belted two home runs, including a clutch three-run shot in the top of the seventh inning that turned out to be the difference in the game. She drove in five runs.
Forks had leads of 7-0 and 13-8 but Elma kept rallied to make the score 13-12 entering the seventh inning.
Fynlie Peters was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and four RBIs, while Lizzy Soto was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Keira Johnson was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a walk Kaidence Rigby was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Bailey Johnson hit a double, drove in a run and scored two runs. Karee Neel hit a double, scored two runs and drove in two.
Gaydeski went the distance in the circle, throwing 135 pitches. She allowed 19 hits and 10 earned runs, striking out five and walking just one batter. She was hurt by six Forks errors.
Forks (3-0, 7-3) has two home Pacific 2B League games against North Beach (0-3, 1-8) beginning at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
