PREP SOFTBALL: Sequim loses in late innings; Forks sweeps Ilwaco

SEQUIM — North Mason was able to break open a close game late against the Sequim softball team, going on to win 11-6.

Sequim and North Mason went into the fifth inning tied 4-4, but the Wolves gave up seven runs in the final three innings.

Mia Kirner had a good game, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Ava Ritter was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. She scored a run and walked.

Rylie Doig was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks, while Taylee Rome had a hit, a run scored, a walk and a stolen base.

In the circle, Rylin Whitehead pitched 3⅔ innings, allowing four hits and four earned runs while striking out three. Navaeh Owens pitched 2⅔ innings, allowing three hits and three earned runs while striking out five. Rome pitched two-thirds of an inning, striking out both batters.

Sequim has three games scheduled this weekend. They play at Kingston (6-5, 9-5) today, then host North Kitsap at 4:15 p.m. Friday and host Kingston at 10 a.m. Saturday.

FORKS — Forks swept a pair of games from Ilwaco, getting a one-hit shutout in one game from Chloe Gaydeski and scoring 11 runs in the sixth inning to blow open a close contest in the second game.

Ilwaco came in to Tuesday’s games with a 4-1 record in the Pacific 2B League and a chance to take over first place, but the Spartans put that to rest with their big day.

The Spartans won 10-0 behind Gaydeski, who struck out 10 in her near-perfect game. They found themselves locked in a 2-2 tie late in the second game, but took control with their 11-run sixth. Avery Dilley belted a two-run home run during that big inning and finished the game with two hits, two runs scored and five RBIs. Lizzy Soto went the distance in that game, allowing six hits and one earned run while striking out five.

Gaydeski had a big doubleheader at the plate as well as the circle. For the day, she went 5-for-6 with two doubles, six RBIs and four runs scored. Keira Johnson hit a home run and a double and drove in three runs in the first game.

Forks, which made it to the state championship game last year, is now ranked No. 6 in the state in ratings percentage index with a record of 13-3 (8-0 in the Pacific 2B League).

The Spartans next play a doubleheader Friday at Raymond-South Bend (3-1, 7-3), another team just one game behind Forks in the loss column.
