PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Quilcene earns Sea-Tac League championship

QUILCENE — Quilcene locked up the Sea-Tac League softball title by dropping second-place Rainier Christian 18-7 in a five inning senior day game.

Senior Stephany Brown went 3 for 3 with five RBIs in Thursday’s contest to power a Rangers’ offensive attack which totaled 19 hits by 10 players.

“Stephany has been around the game for a while and knows how to hit,” Quilcene coach Mark Thompson said. “It was great to see her perform like that on senior day.”

Abby Weller and Erin Macedo both hit home runs as the Rangers opened up a 16-0 lead on the Mustangs.

Weller finished 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, while Macedo went 2 for 2 with three runs and two RBIs.

Bailey Kieffer was 2 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs at-bat. She also earned her 10th win of the season on the mound.

Seniors Alex Johnsen, Jordan Cawyer also had hits for the Rangers.

“It’s worth noting that all seniors got into the hit column in this game,” Thompson said.

Port Angeles 7, Olympic 3

BREMERTON — The Roughriders pitcher Nizhoni Wheeler struck out 10, scored two runs and drove in two RBIs in a win against the Trojans.

“Nizhoni Wheeler pitched a great game and gave herself some run support,” Port Angeles coach Randy Steinman said of Thursday’s game.

Wheeler finished 2 of 3 with a double.

“Kylee Reid’s 3 for 3 and 3 RBIs performance was needed as [we] committed an uncharacteristic six errors,” Steinman said.

With the victory, Port Angeles (10-0, 18-0) moved within one win of clinching its third consecutive Olympic League 2A Division title.

The Riders can clinch the division at home during their annual “Pink It Up” cancer awareness game against Sequim (7-2, 14-3) on Tuesday.
