PREP SOFTBALL: Roughrider bats erupt in doubleheader sweep

ANACORTES — The Port Angeles softball girls swept a nonleague doubleheader, but it wasn’t easy, as they had to score four runs in the seventh inning to pull out a 15-11 win over Lynden and six runs in the seventh to come from behind to beat Anacortes 10-6.

It was all about the hitters in the doubleheader as there were a combined 52 hits in the two games. The Riders muscled up for 29 of those hits and made only one error on the day. It was also the Riders’ 11th and 12th straight wins and their fifth and sixth straight games scoring 10 runs or more.

The Roughriders erupted for a huge seventh inning to beat Anacortes in the nightcap. The Riders were behind 5-4 going into the seventh when Brennan Gray led off the inning with a double, followed by a Lucah Folden walk.

Aeverie Politika then blasted a three-run home run to make it 7-5. The Riders tacked on another three runs for the final margin.

Politika was 2 for 3 in the game with a walk and three RBIs coming off her home run, while Natalie Steinman was 3 for 4 with a double, two runs scored, two RBIs and a walk

Hope O’Connor was 3 for 4 with a run. Callie Hall had two hits, Lucah Folden had a double and two RBIs, while Brennan Gray and Erin Edwards each had a double and an RBI.

Ella Holland pitched a complete game for the win.

The Riders’ game against featured 29 hits. The Riders were much better in the field, making just one error to Lynden’s six. Port Angeles was behind 10-7 at one point, but scored three runs in the fourth and four in the seventh to pull it out.

Sierra Robinson was 5 for 6 with a double, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Edwards was 2 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, while O’Connor was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two walks. Hall was 2 for 3 with a run.

Politika had another strong game at the plate, with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored.

Hall started the game, giving up seven runs in four inning. O’Connor finished it, giving up four runs over the final three innings to collect the win.

Port Angeles (9-0, 14-1) returns to league play at 4 p.m. Monday, going to Poulsbo to take on North Kitsap (5-3, 8-6).
