PREP SOFTBALL: Port Angeles softball salutes its seniors

PORT ANGELES — Six Port Angeles seniors played their final home softball game and two hit home runs as the Roughriders finished off their third straight undefeated Olympic League campaign with a 15-0 dismantling of Kingston.

“You couldn’t ask for a better senior night,” Port Angeles coach Randy Steinman said.

“It all started out with Scooter Chapman announcing the seniors and the seniors putting on a pitching and hitting clinic for the fans.”

Kylee Reid and Nizhoni Wheeler hit home runs as the Riders’ seniors combined for 11 of the team’s 14 hits.

Erin Edwards also homered for the Riders (12-0, 16-1) in the win.

Wheeler struck out nine and allowed just one hit and one walk in her five innings pitched.

Fellow seniors Taylor Clark, Nikaila Price, Lauren Lunt and Ashley Howell all contributed to Port Angeles’ offensive attack.

“We will definitely miss this group of seniors,” Steinman said.

The Riders have won 35 consecutive Olympic League contests and are 77-15 overall, 49-3 in Olympic League play over the past four seasons.

Port Angeles will visit Class 4A South Kitsap in a bid for revenge for the team’s lone loss this year, a 3-2 defeat early in March.
