PREP SOFTBALL: Forks softball loses pair before district tourney

MONTESANO — Forks softball wrapped up its regular season with a pair of losses, but it doesn’t matter for postseason as the Pacific 2B League co-champion moves on to the District 4 tournament Tuesday.

Forks lost to 1A Montesano 8-5 on Saturday and to Pacific 2B League co-champion Pe Ell/Willapa Valley 3-1 on Friday.

In the Montesano game, Keira Johnson had a great performance. She was 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Kadie Wood was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Kenzie Thompson was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

On the rubber, Avery Dilley started, going four innings and allowing six hits and four earned runs while striking out two. Chloe Gaydeski went two innings, allowing two hits and an earned run. She struck out one.

In Friday’s game, the Spartans could only manage four hits against Pe Ell’s pitching. Thompson was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Johnson and Lizzy Soto had hits. Gaydeski pitched the entire game, going seven innings and allowing eight hits and three earned runs. She struck out two.

Forks (13-5) begins district tournament play at noon Wednesday at Fort Borst Park in Centralia as one of the top two seeds from the Pacific 2B League. This is a double-elimination tournament so the Spartans get to play at least two games and then continue Saturday back at Fort Borst Park if they are still alive.
