Sequim girls, Port Angeles boys both win

BELLEVUE — The Port Angeles softball team got monster games both at the plate and on the mound in sweeping a pair of games against central Washington foes — 19-8 against Ellensburg and 15-3 against East Valley of Yakima.

A lot of girls had big games, but the Roughriders’ Lily Halberg had the biggest day of all, hitting three home runs and a triple in the two games, scoring seven runs and driving in a whopping 11 runs.

In the first game against Ellensburg, the Roughriders scored nine runs in the first inning and belted a total of six home runs. Halberg hit two and drove in eight runs. Taylor Worthington also hit two home runs and drove in four, while Natalie Robinson went 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple and a double with three runs scored and an RBI.

Peyton Rudd hit a home run and a double and drove in two while Zoe Smithson hit a triple, walked twice and scored three runs.

On the mound, Cheyenne Zimmer got the win by going 4⅔ innings and allowing eight runs on 11 hits. Heidi Leitz pitched well in relief, going 1⅓ and giving up no hits and no runs while striking out two and walking two.

In Game 2, East Valley made eight errors to aid the Riders’ cause. Halberg added her third home run, driving in three and scoring three runs. Smithson hit a double, scored two runs and drove in two, while Leitz went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Teagan Clark started the game, going six innings and allowing three runs on eight hits while walking none and striking out three. At the plate, Clark went 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Leitz pitched the final inning, giving up no runs on a hit and a walk. She struck out two.

Johnson went 3-for-4 with three doubles and six RBIs in Saturday’s victory.

Hunter Robinson, Michael Soule and Beckett Jarnigan all went 2-for-3 for the Riders.

Caleb Mullen, Ryan Politika and Kellen Garcelon pitched. Coach Casey Dietz said they struggled a little, but that Soule came in to the game in relief with Sehome threatening to score, but pitched well to preserve the win.
