PREP SOCCER: Sequim ties, PT falls to Alaskan team

SEQUIM — The Sequim and Port Townsend boys soccer teams interrupted spring break for games with a squad from Ketchikan, Alaska, managing a tie and a close 1-0 loss.

The Wolves tied the Kings 3-3 on Thursday, while the Redhawks lost 1-0 on Friday.

Ryan Tolber had a hat trick for Sequim. Tolber scored in the fourth minute, assisted by Josiah Urquia. He scored his second goal in the seventh minute by following up on his own deflection off a Ketchikan defender for an unassisted goal.

Ketchikan scored in the ninth minute and the game settled down to a 2-1 score at the half. Kethcikan tied it in the 44th minute, then Tolber got his third goal in the 65th minute on an assistfrom Robert Beeson.

Ketchikan scored in the 72nd minute to force a tie.

“We had some good scoring chances [at the end], but hwe just couldn’t finish,” said Sequim assistant coach Ken Garling.

“It was a fun game, they’re a good team,” Garling said.

Sequim (2-3, 3-3-2) next plays at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at home against Bremerton in an Olympic League 2A game. Port Townsend (2-1, 4-3) does not play again until Friday at Klahowya.
