PREP SOCCER: Port Angeles’ St. George, Forks’ Sandoval earn league MVP honors

All-Olympic League and All-Evergreen League teams announced

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles senior midfielder Andrew St. George has been selected as the Class 2A Olympic League boys soccer MVP in voting conducted by league coaches.

St. George beat out Belgian exchange student Mathys Tanche of Sequim and Roughriders teammate Stuart Methner for the top honor.

Methner joined St. George on the All-Olympic League first team, along with Port Angeles’ senior defender Hollund Bailey.

Tanche was one of three Sequim players to make the first team along with senior midfielder Sean Weber and junior midfielder Adrian Funston.

Three more Wolves earned second-team status.

Sequim junior forward Ryan Tolberd, junior midfielder Mike McAleer and sophomore left back Eli Gish all earned honors.

Port Angeles senior midfield Andrew Methner and junior goalkeeper Anton Kathol were second-team selections for the Riders.

Five honored for PT

PORT TOWNSEND — Six Jefferson County athletes made the Class 1A All-Olympic League boys soccer team in voting conducted by league coaches.

Port Townsend led the way with five picks, four of them seniors including goalkeeper Nico Winegar, midfielders Zach Dempsey and Ben Mattern, defender Owen Scanlon and junior midfielder Silas DeWyse.

Chimacum senior Giuseppe Glanz also made the team.

Klahowya’s Drew Dickson was named MVP.

Forks’ Sandoval MVP

FORKS — Forks’ junior midfielder Hugo Sandoval was honored as the Class 1A Evergreen League boys soccer MVP after leading the Spartans to a league championship and the state tournament for the first time in a decade.

Joining Sandoval on the All-Evergreen League first team are sophomore forward Tony Hernandez-Flores, senior midfielder Seth Johnson, junior midfielder Oscar Gonzales and sophomore defenders Luis Torres and Colton Duncan.

Forks sophomore Teo Ayala-Weed was a second-team selection at forward.

Spartans head coach Joe Morton was tabbed as Evergreen League Coach of the Year.
