PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles boys soccer team got off to a good start against Olympic, but two second-half goals from the Trojans were the difference in a 2-1 loss Friday at Wally Sigmar Field at Peninsula College.
“The Riders got off to a good start and played some of their best soccer of the season against Olympic, but PA let a one-goal lead slip away in the second half,” said coach Chris Saari. “Port Angeles failed to clear a ball on a miscommunication that the Trojans capitalized on in the 65th minute.
“Late in the second half — 78th min. — Port Angeles fouled a Trojan player outside the box. The Trojans put a shot on goal and scored off a rebound to get the win,” Saari said. “It was a tough way to lose. The Trojans were playing short a player for the last 15 minutes due to a red card.”
Freshman Kanyon Anderson scored the Riders’ goal in the 20th minute on a loose ball in the Olympic penalty box.
Saari named Anderson the Roughriders’ offensive player of the match, Aurelio Wilson-Rojero and Jackson Wyall and Jacob Weaver the transition players of the match.
Port Angeles (1-3, 2-4) will look to snap a three-game losing streak Tuesday at North Kitsap (4-0, 5-0).
Olympic 2, East Jefferson 0
BREMERTON — The East Jefferson soccer team played Olympic tough on Saturday, but two second-half goals were the difference in a 2-0 road loss for the Rivals.
“”I’m really proud of our boys. I’m proud with how they’re progressing,” said coach Logan Stegner. “They were super fired up and aggressive.”
Stegner said the Rivals had some fair chances to score and so did Olympic in the first half. The half ended at 0-0.
At the beginning of the second half, Stegner said Olympic hit a “screamer” from 25 yards out that the East Jefferson goalkeeper had no chance to stop.
The Rivals had to play the final 30 minutes of the match down a man after one of their players received a red card. Still, Olympic only managed one more goal, and that was on an attempted cross that went high and found the far post.
“They fought really hard,” Stegner said. He felt that Simon Barlow, Eduardo Martinez, Rylin Kruse and Grady White all played well for the Rivals.
East Jefferson (1-3-1, 1-5-1) next plays at Charles Wright (0-4, 0-4) in a Nisqually League contest.
In another Friday boys soccer game, Raymond-South Bend defeated Forks 3-2.
