PORT ANGELES — A bad stretch right before halftime doomed Port Angeles in its 3-0 loss to Olympic League leader Kingston in boys soccer action at Civic Field.
The Roughriders held off the Buccaneers on Tuesday until two consecutive defensive lapses in the 37th and 38th minutes.
Damon Ledezma scored Kingston’s first goal and Moises Larios tallied the second a minute later.
Port Angeles had some opportunities throughout the match but Kingston goalkeeper Alexander Worland was solid and kept a clean sheet.
In the 63rd minute, Larios followed a teammate’s shot and tapped in a rebound goal for the Buccaneers’ third goal.
Riders coach Chris Saari chose Jackson May as the team’s offensive player of the match, Hayden Kays-Erdman as the defensive palyer of the match and Wei-Yan Fu as the transition player of the match.
With the win, Kingston (11-2, 33 points) kept pace atop the Olympic League with North Kitsap and Sequim, which was idle Tuesday.
Port Angeles (6-8, 17 points) has a two-game lead over Bremerton (4-8, 11 points) for the fifth-place position at the district seeding tournament.
The Riders finish their season with a road contest at Klahowya (9-5, 28 points) on Monday and a home match Wednesday against Bremerton.
Port Angeles won the JV match 2-1.
Port Townsend 4, North Mason 3
PORT TOWNSEND — The Redskins captured a must-win match over the Bulldogs at Memorial Field on Tuesday.
Port Townsend (4-9, 12 points) sits in sixth place in the Olympic League and took three important points from eighth-place North Mason (3-11, 10 points), which trails the Redskins leads by two points.
Port Townsend must finish seventh in the Olympic League to earn a play-in game against a Nisqually League school.
The Redskins took an early lead in Tuesday’s game when Max Meier scored in the eight minute off an assist by Patrick Charlton, but North Mason’s Danny Wiseman evened the score in the 15th minute by running down a long pass and beating Port Townsend goalkeeper Forrest Piatt.
The Redskins took the lead into halftime thanks to a super quick goal by Beshir Little, who received a pass from Max Meier and skillfully settled with a couple of touches before finding the back of the net.
The Bulldogs took the lead back with a pair of goals early in the second half.
Piatt was penalized for roughing a North Mason player in the box, setting up a penalty kick that tied the game.
Five minutes later, the Bulldogs took the lead on a free kick by Wiseman after the Redskins were called for a hard tackle at the top of their own goal box.
Port Townsend dominated possession throughout the game, and sound defense and distribution by Shilo Lamphear-Ramirez, Ian Hadden, Micah Evalt, John Reid, Mark Streett and Piatt initiated numerous offensive plays for the Redskins.
In the 68th minute, Connor Chisick ripped a goal into the upper corner of the North Mason goal thanks to a quick cross by Daniel Charlton, tying the score at 3-3.
Piatt then saved a sure-goal on a Danny Wiseman breakaway by diving full-length across the goal.
In the final minute of regulation, Beshir Little combined with Daniel Charlton, who sent a bullet of a shot on goal just inside the Bulldogs’ box.
The goalkeeper got his hand on the Charlton rocket but couldn’t contain the ball from reaching its destination and giving the Redskins the victory.
Port Townsend travels to face winless Olympic (0-12, 0 points) today.
