PORT TOWNSEND — The young East Jefferson boys and girls cross-country teams combined for six finishes in the top 12 in a Nisqually League 2-mile meet held at Camas Prairie Golf Park in Port Townsend.
East Jefferson graduated a lot of seniors from last year’s teams with most of their new top runners sophomores and juniors.
The East Jefferson boys had four finishers in the top 15, three of them sophomores and one a freshman, and finished second as a team with 59 points. Vashon won with 42. (Like golf, lower scores are better in cross country).
The top boys’ runner for the Rivals was Joshua Yearian, who came in sixth with a time of 10 minutes, 38.5 seconds. Right behind in seventh was Noah Isenberg with a time of 10:48.6. In 12th was Nico Errichetti in a time of 11:22.9 and in 15th was freshman Zeke Banks in 11:31.0.
In other finishes, Dustin Hines was 19th in 11:36.1, Atom Barrett 28th (12:01.7), Biorn Brostrom 32nd (12:11.7), Kepler Edmundson 50th (12:56.9), Maxwell Neumann 65th (13:43.0), Addison Hartman 78th (14:25.6), Nathan Ericson 95th (15:55.6), Oliver Johnson 99th (16:21.3) and Alex Lott 100th (16:26.3). There were a total of 108 runners in the boys’ race.
The girls did not have a full team but got three runners in the top 11.
Leah Ferland came in seventh with a time of 13:49.4, while Hilina Taylor-Lez was 10th in 14:16.6 and Michael Gregg was 11th in 14:37.6. Kaida Rodrigues was 38th in 18:52.4. There were a total of 45 runners in the girls’ race.
East Jefferson is next scheduled to run at the Pacific Lutheran University Invite in Tacoma on Saturday.
Volleyball Sequim 3, North Mason 1
BELFAIR — The Sequim volleyball team warmed up for a huge early-season matchup with Bainbridge by beating North Mason 3-1 (25-18, 25-17, 19-25, 25-21) to remain unbeaten in Olympic League play.
The Wolves (2-0, 2-1) will host Bainbridge (3-0, 3-1) at 6:30 p.m. today in a battle for first place. Bainbridge is now a full-fledged member of the Olympic League.
“They have some height on us. It’s good for the league to have tough teams,” said coach Jennie Webber-Heilman.
North Mason came in to Tuesday’s match unbeaten.
“I was able to play everyone. They had a couple of pretty decent hitters and their setter was running around all over the place,” Webber-Heilman said.
The Wolves served 87 percent, below Webber-Heilman’s goal of 90 percent, but did rack up 18 aces.
Kenzi Berglund was huge for the Wolves, serving a perfect 25-for-25 with seven aces. She also had 21 assists and 12 digs.
Rose Gibson served 17-for-18 with six aces, nine digs and four kills.
Kassi Montero served 9-for-11 with a pair of aces. She added nine digs and five kills, while Arianna Stovall served 9-for-12 with an ace and had seven kills and two blocks.
Tiffany Lam added 15 digs and Brianna Palenik had five kills.
Bainbridge 3, Port Angeles 0
BAINBRIDGE — Bainbridge showed why it is in first place in the Olympic League, beating Port Angeles 3-0 (25-4, 25-12, 25-8) in volleyball Tuesday.
“Bainbridge was a great team to play,” said coach Alyssa Wetzler. “Though walking away with a loss, the girls celebrated each other and found the positives during the whole match. We have things that we get to work on, and each day we grow closer as a team. I am so proud of them.”
Bridget Weed had an ace, while Jordin Dunaway had an ace and two kills. Heidi Leitz had an ace and a kill and Aubree Hebert had a kill.
Port Angeles (0-2, 0-3) plays a home match against Olympic (0-2, 2-2) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Neah Bay 3, Forks 2
NEAH BAY — In another Tuesday volleyball match, Neah Bay defeated Forks 3-2.
For Forks, Erika Williams had eight kills, two blocks, two aces and 14 assists, while Karee Neel had five aces and Reagan Dunn four aces. Eladia Hernandez-Stansbury served 11-for-12 with five aces.
Bailey Johnson served 12-for-14 and have five assists while Keana Rowley had five kills.
Neah Bay stats were not available.
