BREMERTON — The Sequim girls soccer team got a hat trick from Taryn Johnson, who scored her flurry of goals in just seven minutes, in a 4-1 road win over Olympic, bouncing back from a season-opening loss to Port Angeles.
The Trojans got on the board first in the 28th minute.
“There was a little miscommunication on our defense,” said coach Ken Garling.
Then Johnson and her fellow Wolves went to work.
Johnson quickly answered with a goal in the 29th minute, then scored again in the 33rd, and collected her hat trick with a third goal in the 36th minute.
“Once we got the momentum back, I was happy with how the girls fought back,” Garling said. “With our speed, they couldn’t keep up with us. They didn’t have a solution to stop our attack.”
Hannah Wagner assisted on two of Johnson’s goals, while Jennyfer Gomez also picked up an assist.
Wagner missed on a penalty kick in the second half, but later broke through for a goal of her own in the 77th minute. Garling said Wagner had a number of opportunities and could have had a hat trick herself.
“We could have easily scored two or three more goals,” he said.
Addie Smith picked up the victory as the goalkeeper. Garling said the Wolves’ back line of Kaia Lestage and Bailey Genessie also played strong, keeping the Trojans from getting good chances.
“Our back line did a fantastic job keeping them at bay,” he said.
The Wolves (1-1) host North Kitsap (1-1) at 6:45 p.m. today.
Volleyball Sequim 3, Olympic 0
BREMERTON — The Sequim volleyball team remained unbeaten with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-22) win on the road over Olympic, setting up an early-season battle for first in the Olympic League with perennial powerhouse North Kitsap today.
“We actually played really well. We defended really well,” said coach Jennie Webber-Heilman.
Allie Gale led the Wolves with 21 assists and six aces, serving 21-for-25. Webber-Heilman said the Wolves actually fell behind in Game 3, but Gale went on an eight-point run to help put the Trojans away in three.
Kendall Hastings also had 16 kills in only three games. She added two stuff blocks.
“They just couldn’t stop her,” Webber-Heilman said.
Jordan Hegtvedt served 6-for-6 and had four digs. Lindsay Swanson served 17-for-18 and three aces, and Jolene Vaara had a good all-around match, serving 9-for-10 with two aces, six kills, six digs and four stuff blocks.
Kelsi Bergeson had four kills, while Jordan Kidd served 5-for-6 with three digs.
The Wolves (3-0) next play North Kitsap (2-0) in Sequim at 6:15 p.m. today.
Boys tennis Port Angeles 7, Olympic 0
BREMERTON — The Roughriders boys’ tennis team had a convincing 7-0 road sweep over Olympic on Tuesday.
The Riders won six out of seven matches and were given a win in a forfeit in a seventh match. They not only went undefeated, they didn’t lose a set. The doubles teams of James Burkhardt and Zane Glassock and Nathan Basden and Tate Alton both won their matches 6-0, 6-0.
“I thought we did a good job of staying focused and keeping the energy up today,” said coach Brian Gundersen.
Gundersen singled out Edun Bailey as his player of the meet.
“I could tell that Edun had a game plan, and he executed it really well today. He was in control of all facets of his game,” Gunderson said. The Riders play at Bainbridge today.

POULSBO — Sequim’s Barrett Little and Koda Robinson picked up singles wins against a strong North Kitsap tennis team Tuesday, but the Wolves were swept in doubles play in a 5-2 loss to the Vikings.
Little won his match 7-5, 6-1 over the Vikings’ Jason Hart, while Robinson beat Indigo Gallagher 6-2, 7-5.
Coach Mark Textor named Robinson the player of the meet for the Wolves.
Sequim next hosts North Mason at 4 p.m. today.
