SEQUIM — The Sequim baseball team got a game-winning sacrifice fly from Ayden Holland in the bottom of the 11th to earn a hard-fought 6-5 victory over North Mason on Monday.

The Wolves also got outstanding pitching perfomances from Toppy Robideau, Brayden White and Zeke Schmadeke, who combined to give up seven hits, three walks and three earned runs in 11 innings. Schmadeke picked up the win, pitching a perfect 11th inning.

Sequim batters had 10 hits and were walked 13 times by a wild Bulldogs staff. However, the Wolves stranded 17 runners over 11 innings.

After a slow start to the season, the Wolves have now won four of their last five games.

The Wolves had to rally twice to win the game. Sequim found itself in deep trouble in the bottom of the ninth, down 5-3 with no runners on and two outs.

Devyn Dearinger began the rally innocently with a two-out walk. Hunter Tennell followed with a single and Bryant Laboy walked to load the bases. Schmadeke came through with a clutch single to center field, driving in two runs to tie the game at 5-5.

Tennell began the rally this time, getting on base on an error. Laboy followed with a bunt single, moving Tennell to third base, 90 feet away from a Sequim victory. Schmadeke, who had been red-hot at the plate all day, was intentionally walked to load the bases and force an out at every base.

Lincoln Bear popped up but then Holland came through with a fly ball to right field to drive in Tennell and finally end the game.

Schmadeke finished the game 5-for-6, collecting half of Sequim’s hits, with a run scored, two RBIs and a walk. He also stole a base. Tennell scored three runs, while Bear hit a double and drove in two runs. Holland was 0-for-2, but had the game-winning RBI and got on base four times with three walks and by being hit by a pitch.

On the mound, Robideau started, going seven innings and allowing four hits, three walks and two earned runs while striking out seven. White pitched two innings, allowing two hits and an earned run while striking out one. Schmadeke pitched the final two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one. Laboy had a hit, a run scored and two walks, while Ethan Staples had a hit, a walk and an RBI.

Sequim (4-8, 7-8) plays at North Mason (1-9, 1-12) today hoping to get back to .500 on the season.

BAINBRIDGE — Port Angeles got into a tight pitchers’ duel with 3A Bainbridge on Monday, with the Spartans pulling out the walk-off victory in the bottom of the seventh inning on a groundout.

Port Angeles’ Kole Acker pitched well enough to earn the victory, going 6⅔ innings, allowing just five hits and two earned runs against the 11-1 Spartans, who average seven runs a game. Blake Sohlberg took the loss, going two-thirds of an inning. Sohlberg allowed just one hit, but Bainbridge sacrificed the runner to second base and he was able to come in to score on a groundout to the right side of the infield.

Tanner Jacobsen hit a double for the Roughriders and scored a run. Elijah Flodstrom had a hit and a run scored, while Josiah Gooding had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Colten Romero and Jordan Shumway each had a hit and an RBI.
