SEQUIM — The Sequim volleyball team lost to a powerful 3A Bainbridge squad at home 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-14).
Jolene Vaara led the Wolves with two aces, four kills and two stuff blocks. Tiffany Lam had nine digs while Arianna Stovall served 6-for-7 with a stuff block.
In another prep volleyball matches from Tuesday night, Neah Bay beat Forks 3-0.
Sequim (3-2, 3-3) plays at Bremerton at 6:15 p.m. today, while Forks (2-1, 4-2) is at Ocosta (3-1, 5-2) at 7 p.m. today.
Neah Bay (6-0), which has only lost two sets all year, next plays at Chief Kitsap on Oct. 3.
North Kitsap 3, Port Angeles 1
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles volleyball team took a game from perennial powerhouse North Kitsap, but fell 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-18, 25-11)
“It was a great match, it’s always fun to play against good competition and the girls played hard. Great passes, sets, hits and blocks. We just get to do some fine tuning in practice and get ready to compete in the next one. It’s been such a pleasure to work with these girls and am so grateful for each day in the gym with them,” said coach Alyssa Wetzler.
Bainbridge (4-1, 4-2) is at Port Angeles (2-3, 2-4) at 6:45 p.m. today.
Monday’s match
East Jefferson 3, Vashon 2
CHIMACUM — The East Jefferson volleyball team battled back during a marathon five-set match to beat Vashon 3-2 (26-24, 25-16, 18-25, 23-25, 15-13) for its second Nisqually League win of the year.
“It was an exciting game, and a great battle by both sides,” said coach Carrie Beebe. “The team is still growing and learning to work together.”
The Rivals’ setters, Dylin Shockley and Grace Liske, assisted Penina Vailolo with 37 hits, 10 of which were kills. Kaityn Riley had 15 hits and two kills, Sophia Petta 14 hits and five kills, while Abbie Liske had 13 hits and a kill.
Petta also led the offense with 18 serves, four aces and a whopping 55 digs. Vailolo had 42 digs and four stuff blocks. Emily Liske had 16 serves.
East Jefferson (2-4, 3-4) played Life Christian (2-3, 2-3) after press deadline Wednesday and plays Annie Wright (5-1, 5-2) at 6:30 p.m. today at Chimacum.
Latest RPI rankings
SEATTLE — Forks is rated No. 4 in the Ratings Percentage Index football rankings released by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association on Wednesday.
Forks is the only Olympic Peninsula team ranked in the top 10. The Spartans are 4-0, having outscored their opponents 151-30. They finish the season against No. 9 Pe Ell/Willapa Valley (3-1) on Oct. 20 and at No. 2 Napavine (4-0) on Oct. 26.
At the 2A level, the Olympic League’s Bremerton (4-0) is ranked No. 3 and North Kitsap (3-1) is ranked No. 9. Port Angeles has played and lost to both No. 5 Anacortes (4-0) and North Kitsap, though the Roughriders did stick with the Vikings through the first half. Bainbridge, part of the Olympic League as a 3A school, is ranked No. 4.
Port Angeles plays at Bremerton on Oct. 6 and hosts Bainbridge on Oct. 13 so it will face four top 10 teams this season.
Sequim has lost to Forks and Bainbridge, hosts North Kitsap on Oct. 20 and plays at Bremerton on Oct. 26, so it will likewise play four top 10 ranked teams this season.
At the 1A level, Cascade Christian (No. 6) and Life Christian (No. 6), both Nisqually League teams along with East Jefferson, are in the top 10. East Jefferson hosts Life Christian in Port Townsend on Friday night.
At the 1B level, Liberty Christian is ranked No. 1, Liberty Bell No. 2 and Wellpinit No. 4. Neah Bay beat both Wellpinit and Liberty Christian in the state playoffs last year and lost in the championship game to Liberty Bell. Liberty Bell beat the Red Devils again early this season. Darrington (4-0), part of the Northwest 1B League, is ranked No. 9. Darrington plays at Neah Bay on Oct. 13, hosts Quilcene on Oct. 6 and plays at Crescent on Oct. 28.
In volleyball, Neah Bay (6-0) is ranked No. 2 in the state in RPI, while in girls’ soccer, Sequim (4-1) is ranked No. 12.
