PREP ROUNDUP: Sequim soccer wins in overtime on James goal

KINGSTON — The Sequim soccer team got a golden goal winner in overtime from Natayla James to beat Kingston 2-1 this weekend.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Wolves, who had struggled to score in those losses. Sequim improved its record to 3-5.

Rileigh Van Dyken assisted on James’ game-winner.

Abby Schroeder had the Wolves’ other goal, scoring unassisted on a free kick from about 25 yards out, said coach Derek Vandervelde.

Vandervelde said Addie Smith also played well in goal, as did Kaia Lestage, a freshman on defense.

“They played really well. They’re working on making better connections. They did a really good job,” Vandervelde said. “There’s been a few hiccups this year but we’re making a good amount of progress.”

Sequim hosts Olympic at 6:45 p.m. today. The Wolves beat the Trojans (4-4-1) 2-0 earlier this year, but Olympic has been up and down all year, starting 3-0 and beating a very powerful Port Angeles team which has been otherwise unbeaten, but then going 1-4-1 since that big win over the Roughriders.
