ANACORTES — The Sequim girls basketball team blew open a tight game with a 20-5 third quarter to beat Anacortes on Saturday 50-32.
The Wolves went into the half up just 21-17.
Gracie Chartraw led the Wolves with 16 points, eight steals and three assists.
“Gracie was amazing. She had a few amazing plays this game that got the crowd going,” said coach Joclin Julmist.
Bobbi Mixon added 14 points and three steals.
“Bobbie had her best game of the season. She played with confidence and was under control for most of the game,” Julmist said.
Jolene Vaara had 10 points, six boards and three steals, and Dani Herman had a solid all-around game with six points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots. “We need her to keep playing the way she played today,” Julmist said.
“Libby Turella was really good for us again doing all of the dirty work rebounding … and getting on the floor for loose balls,” Julmist said. Turella finished with four points, five rebounds and three assists.
Sequim (2-1, 3-1) next plays at defending state 1B champion Neah Bay at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

GIG HARBOR — With three players missing, the Port Angeles girls basketball team wasn’t able to keep up with 3A Peninsula in the fourth quarter in a 57-43 loss on the road.
The Roughriders were tied 21-21 at the half and were still just down 43-38 in the fourth, but the Seahawks’ Kaylia Heidelberg hit three 3-pointers as part of an 11-2 run for Peninsula. Heidelberg hit nine 3-pointers on the night for 34 points.
“We were missing three players and fatigue set in late, but our coaching staff was pleased with our overall effort in defense and rebounding,” said coach Michael Poindexter.
Lindsay Smith led the Riders with her third straight double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, 10 of them on the offensive end. Teanna Clark had a solid all-around game with eight points, nine assists and six steals. Paige Mason had seven points and 10 rebounds.
Port Angeles (3-0, 5-2) next plays at Neah Bay at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

NEAH BAY — The Neah Bay boys basketball team hung on to beat Port Angeles 57-55 on Saturday night.
The Red Devils were led by Makyah Chambers with 17 and Jodell Wimberley with 16. Mathias Greene had nine, Tyler Swan eight and Seactis Woodruff seven.
The Roughriders got 16 points from Parker Nickerson, who hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter. Kason Albaugh hit three 3-pointers and scored 15. Isaiah Shamp had eight.
Port Angeles (2-1, 3-2) will play W.F. West at 7 p.m. Tuesday at home in a nonleague game.
Neah Bay (2-1) will play at LaConner today and then is off until Jan. 5.
