NEAH BAY — In a battle between two good Olympic Peninsula girls basketball teams, Sequim scored 25 points in the fourth quarter to come from behind and beat Neah Bay 60-52 on Monday night.
Jelissa Julmist had a huge game for the Wolves, with three 3-pointers, 27 points and nine rebounds, while Allie Greene hit five 3-pointers and scored 25 points for the Red Devils. Julmist also shot 10-for-14 on her free throws.
It was the opening game for both squads. Neah Bay is coming off of playing in the 1B state championship game last year, while Sequim is coming off a third-place finish at the district tournament and an appearance in the state 2A playoffs.
Neah Bay went into the fourth quarter with a 41-35 lead, but the Wolves, led by the hot hand of Hannah Bates, outscored the Red Devils 25-11 in the final quarter. Bates hit three 3-pointers in the fourth and scored 11 of her 14 points in the final period. Bates ended up shooting 5-for-8 from the field.
Jolene Vaara had a solid all-around game, adding 13 points, seven steals and two blocks for Sequim. Taryn Johnson had six assists and three steals for the Wolves, while Bobbi Mixon added a pair of blocks.
For Neah Bay, Ryana Moss had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Sequim (1-0) opened Olympic League play Tuesday night at Bainbridge after press deadline. The Wolves play their first home game at 7 p.m. Thursday against Bremerton.
Neah Bay (0-1) is scheduled to host Crosspoint Academy at 2 p.m. Saturday.

North Mason 48, East Jefferson 22
BELFAIR — The East Jefferson girls basketball team had one rough quarter, but was otherwise competitive for the other three in a 48-22 loss to North Mason on Monday.
The Bulldogs outscored the Rivals 21-2 in the third quarter. For the rest of the game, East Jefferson was outscored just 27-20.
Alyssa Vandenberg led the Rivals with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Abbie Liske had six points.

Sequim 2, Port Angeles 0
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles and Sequim squared off Monday afternoon in a doubleheader in which Sequim won both matches.
Sequim got off to a hot start with a season-high team score of 677 in game one to defeat the Riders 5-2. Both Kim Heintz and Morgan Kayser bowled high scores of 169 in the match to lead the Wolves.
The Roughriders heated up in match two and knocked down more total pins than the Wolves, but it was the team high Baker scores for Sequim that sealed the victory for the Wolves 4-3. Port Angeles bowler Natalie Robinson’s single-game score of 172 and combined two-game score of 309 were both high scores of the day.
On Thursday, Sequim visits undefeated Klahowya while the Riders host second-place North Mason.
