BREMERTON — Sequim’s boys golf team stayed unbeaten after knocking off Bremerton on the Olympic Course at Gold Mountain 249 strokes to 291.
“Although we were scheduled to play an 18-hole match, we decided to modify it to a 14-hole game due to darkness,” Wolves coach Bill Shea said. “The par was 55.”
Andrew Vanderberg led Sequim with a 3-over-par 58 to finish second, one-stroke behind medalist Bryce Kahle of the Knights (57).
Blake Wiker was third for the Wolves with a 59, Paul Jacobsen added a 61 and Liam Payne and Jarret Allen each shot 71.
Sequim (7-0) hosts Kingston on Thursday.
Olympic 186, Port Angeles 197
BREMERTON — Skyler Cobb led the Roughriders with a round of 46 on the par-35 front nine at Rolling Hills Golf Course on Thursday.
Cameron Fouts carded a 49 for Port Angeles, while Derek Sparks added a 50 and Nate Drake a 52.
Chris Duckworthy was medalist for the Trojans with a round of 43.
Port Angeles (3-3) hosts Chimacum and North Kitsap at Peninsula Golf Club on Wednesday.
Klahowya 199, Chimacum 214
PORT LUDLOW — Chimacum lost narrowly to Chimacum at Port Ludlow 214-199.
Logan Storm led Chimacum with a 48, while Nate Miller shot a 49, Sean Storey carded a 56, while Sage Vancamp shot a 61 and Brayden Yingling a 63.
Klahowya was led by Ladnon Betzing with a 45. Garett Betsing and Aaron Phillips each carded 49.
The Chimacum boys (2-4, 3-5) next play at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Port Angeles along with North Kitsap.
Girls
Golf Sequim 182, Bremerton 234
BREMERTON — Sarah Shea earned medalist honors with a 6-over-par 42 as the Wolves stayed unbeaten with a win over the Knights on the front nine of the Cascade Course at Gold Mountain Golf Club on Thursday.
Samantha Smith was one-shot back of Shea after shooting 43 and Maddie Uranga posted a career-best round of 46 for Sequim.
Yana Hoesel also counted for the Wolves with a 51.
Sequim (6-0) sits alone atop the Olympic League standings. The Wolves will play at the 26th annual Burlington-Edison Girls Invitational at Skagit Golf and Country Club on Monday.
Wolves coach Garrett Smithson said the team will compete against Western Washington teams from all classifications.
“We are very excited to see where we stand against some of the state’s best teams,” Smithson said.
Olympic 206, Port Angeles 248
BREMERTON — Kathryn McMahan led the Roughriders with a round of 58 in a loss to the Trojans at Rolling Hills Golf Course on Thursday.
Gillian Elofson added a 61, while Emma Murray shot 68 and Aliya Johnston a 69.
Port Angeles (2-4) hosts Chimacum and North Kitsap on Wednesday.
Klahowya 226, Chimacum 270
PORT LUDLOW — Erin Crouch led Chimacum with a 59 in a match with Klahowya.
Klahowya won 226-270. Delana Horner shot a 67 for Chimacum and Janae Murray a 72.
Chimacum (1-5, 1-5) next plays at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Port Angeles along with North Kitsap.
Boys Soccer
Klahowya 3, Sequim 1
SILVERDALE — Going up against the best team in the Olympic League 1A Division, the Sequim soccer boys lost 3-1 on the road to Klahowya.
Though Klahowya is a 1A school, the Eagles are 4-0 in league and 7-2-1 overall that has outscored its opponents 33-6 this season. Despite the loss, coach Dave Brasher thought the Wolves played well and that Klahowya is simply a very good team.
The game was played in gusting winds. Sequim scored its goal in the 52nd minute to tie the game 1-1. Hayuk Minano tallied the goal with Liam Harris picking up an assist. The Eagles scored a go-ahead goal in the 70th minute and the Wolves were not able to recover.
“That took the wind out of our sails, though the wind was still in our sails,” said coach Dave Brasher. The Eagles added an insurance goal in the final minutes of the match.
Brasher named Minano as the player of the game for Sequim.
The loss doesn’t hurt the Wolves in league. Sequim (5-2-0, 15 points, 6-3-2 overall) next plays at North Mason (2-6, 2-6-2) at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, with a chance to move into a tie for second in the Olympic League 2A Division.
Softball
Sequim 10, Bremerton 0
BREMERTON — The Sequim girls jumped into second place of the Olympic League 2A Division with a three-hit 10-0 shutout over Bremerton.
The Wolves’ Isabelle Dennis pitched the 5-inning shutout on Wednesday. Sequim was led offensively by Bobbi Sparks, Jayla Julmist, Shelby Jones and Brianna Dominguez, who all had two hits each.
A Friday game against Olympic was rained out. With the win, the Wolves (3-1, 3-6) move into a tie for second place with Olympic, a game behind league leader Port Angeles. Sequim plays at Port Angeles (4-0, 7-1) at 4:15 p.m. Monday with the chance to tie the Roughriders in the league standings.
Baseball
Chimacum 8, Forks 7
CHIMACUM — In a nonleague game that saw the Cowboys and Spartans commit a combined 11 errors, Chimacum picked up a walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh when Henry Brebberman came home via an error committed in the Forks infield.
The Cowboys overcame the Spartans’ four-run first inning, highlighted by RBI singles by Carson Ness and Trey Baysinger, rallying from an eventual 6-2 deficit.
A 3-run sixth inning was key for Chimacum.
Kolby Eldridge walked, Jonah Diehl reached on an error and Issac Purser brought home Eldridge with an infield single. Diehl stole home to tie the game at 6-all, and Carson McConnell reached on a dropped third strike and eventually scored on an error after stealing third base.
Reece Blattner tied the game at 7-all for Forks in the top of the seventh with a line drive to center field, but the Spartans couldn’t add any more offense or keep the Cowboys down in their final at-bats to pull out the win.
Chimacum (3-0, 5-5) won all three games it played last week. The Cowboys host Klahowya on Wednesday.
Forks (0-4, 0-8) will host Hoquiam on Monday.
