BREMERTON — The Port Angeles baseball team picked up its second shutout of the season behind a two-hit effort from Rylan Politika and Brandt Petty, beating Bremerton 10-0.
After a rough opening game played in a torrential downpour, the Roughriders’ pitching has been spectacular. In three straight wins, Riders’ pitchers have gone a total of 17 innings, allowing one run and five hits, with a combined ERA of 0.41.
Monday’s game was the second shutout this season against Bremerton. Politika started, going four innings. He allowed one hit and two walks while striking out four. Perry allowed one hit in the fifth inning and struck out one. The Knights had a total of four baserunners all game.
In their past three games, Port Angeles has outscored its opponents 28-1.
At the plate, Josiah Gooding did much of the damage for the Riders. He belted two doubles, scored three runs and drove in one. He walked once and stole a base.
Ezra Townsend was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Colton Romero kept up his great on-base percentage with two walks. He scored two runs. Kaleb Mullen had a hit, run scored, RBI and a walk, while Nate Basden had a hit, an RBI and a walk. Jordan Shumway had a hit, two runs scored and a stolen base.
Port Angeles (2-0, 4-0) played at Olympic (0-1, 2-1) after press deadline. They are scheduled to host Olympic at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at Civic Field. Light showers are forecast for that day.
In another Monday baseball game, Vashon beat East Jefferson 10-2.

Softball Liberty 6, Port Angeles 0
RENTON — The Port Angeles softball team has a reputation as one of the toughest 2A teams in western Washington.
In order to get good, the Roughriders scheduled some tough nonleague opponents this season, including three 3A teams — Central Kitsap, Gig Harbor and Liberty of Renton — to start the season.
The Riders beat both Central Kitsap and Gig Harbor, but Liberty beat Port Angeles 6-0 on Monday. Liberty isn’t just any 3A team. The Patriots went 25-4 last year and made it to the quarterfinals of the 3A state tournament.
Liberty pitchers held the power Port Angeles bats to just three hits. Natalie Robinson, Mikkhia Stevens and Sophia Ritchie all had singles for the Riders.
In the circle, Heidi Leitz and Reid didn’t do poorly against Liberty, allowing eight hits total and five earned runs. Leitz went 4⅔ innings, giving up four hits and three earned runs while striking out eight. Lynzee Reid went 1⅓ innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs. She struck out one.
Port Angeles (0-0, 2-1) played its first Olympic League game Tuesday after press deadline against Bremerton. The Riders next play at North Mason (0-0, 2-0) on Thursday. The Riders play some more tough games this weekend, traveling to Bellevue College to play Ellensburg and East Valley of Yakima.

BREMERTON — The Port Angeles girls tennis team got a pair of wins from singles players Waverly Mead and Emma Murray, but fell 5-2 overall to Olympic as the Roughriders’ doubles teams were blanked.
Mead won her match versus Nya Shride 6-3, 6-4, while Murray beat Leah Brashear 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
The doubles team of Cayleigh Alward/Abby Riffle had a good match against Mikeala Bulusar/Leelah Stovall, losing a close one 6-7 (7-4), 6-2, 6-4.
Port Angeles next plays at Bainbridge today.
