POULSBO — The Port Angeles boys swim team competed this weekend in the 10-team Swimvitational Meet, where each team could only field a maximum of eight swimmers. The Roughriders tallied 125 points, finishing in fifth place.
A standout performer for Port Angeles was Colby Ellefson. Ellefson secured the highest individual place for the Riders by clinching second in the 200 freestyle and fourth in the 500 freestyle. Ellefson achieved personal best times in both events, inching close to a state qualifying time in the 200 freestyle, with just three seconds standing in his way.
Finn Thompson also contributed to the team’s success, delivering a standout performance in the 100 backstroke. Thompson’s third-place finish came with a personal-best time, shaving his previous best by 2.35 seconds. He edged closer to the state qualifying time by three seconds.
Jensen Wolfe was the most improved swimmer for the Roughriders, dropping a remarkable 16 seconds off his time in the 500 freestyle, securing a seventh-place finish. Right on his heels was teammate Charlie Kasten, touching in eighth and contributing points to the team’s overall score.
Additional point earners for Port Angeles included Nolan Medgin, who claimed seventh in the 100 breaststroke, Thomas Jones with a ninth-place finish in the 100 butterfly and Edward Gillespie, who came in 11th in the 200 freestyle.
Port Angeles had two relay teams break into the top five. The 400 freestyle relay team, comprised of Jones, Ellefson, Thompson and Medgin, touched in third, while the same quartet exhibited their skills in the 200 medley relay, grabbing a respectable fourth.
Gig Harbor, a 3A school, was first with 254 points and Peninsula, another 3A school, was second at 230. Port Angeles was second among Olympic League schools as Kingston had 139 points.

Girls Bowling
Port Angeles 4, Sequim 3
PORT ANGELES — In a close match Monday afternoon, the Port Angeles girls bowling team defeated Sequim 4-3.
With the victory, the Roughriders finished second in league with a 10-5 record. The Riders had a solid game one and earned the first two points of the match, but Sequim bounced back to take the lead after winning game two and the first Baker game.
Port Angeles narrowly won the second Baker by two pins, then collected the tiebreaking point by taking the overall pin count for the day.
Paige Pangaro rolled a personal best-score by bowling a 211 in game one and 345 overall, and Abby Robinson added a game of 173 and overall score of 317. Leading Sequim in game two was Morgan Kayser with a 150 and Skkylar Krzyworz with a 149. Nikoline Updike had a 137 and Victoria Nava a 121.
Morgan led in overall score with a 270, while Updike rolled a 260, Krzyworz a 256 and Nava a 239.
Next up for both teams is the Olympic League Tournament on Thursday at All Star Lanes in Silverdale.
