PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend volleyball girls got eight kills from Izzy Hammett and rallied from a pair of rough games to beat Chimacum 3-2.
It appeared the Redhawks were on their way to a quick victory when they won the first two games 25-18 and 25-19.
But the Cowboys fought back in Games 3 and 4, dominating 25-6 and 25-17, locking the match up at two games apiece. The Redhawks bounced back to win Game 5 15-5 to take a hard-fought victory.
“We kind of fell down in Games 3 and 4, but came right out in game 5,” said Port Townsend coach Kim Williams.
Hammett finished the match with three blocks and five aces to go along with her kills. Claudia Garfias had four aces, Katie Ballard three aces and Sierra Ruegg three kills for the Redhawks.
Port Townsend (1-2, 1-5) next plays at Bremerton on Thursday. Chimacum (0-1, 2-5) hosts Klahowya (2-0, 6-1) at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Port Angeles 3, Bremerton 1
BREMERTON — Port Angeles won its second Olympic League 2A match, battling Bremerton to a 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 25-20) victory on the road.
Riders’ freshman libero Lily Halberg had 32 digs, serving 13 for 13 with three aces. Middle hitter Jaida Wood had five blocks and seven kills, while middle hitter Zoe Smithson had eight blocks, five kills and served 17 for 20 with two aces. McKenzie Musalek had 21 digs and three kills.
Setter Camille Stensgard had 17 assists while outside hitter Kennedy Bruch had nine kills, 16 digs and served 12 for 14. Fellow outside hitter McKenzie Musalek had 21 digs and three kills.
The win puts the Riders in a tie for fourth place, in position for the postseason.
Port Angeles (2-3, 3-3) doesn’t get to play much at home for a while. The Riders’ next match is at Olympic (2-3, 3-5) in a match that could put Port Angeles in a tie for third if the Riders win.

Forks 3, North Beach 0
FORKS — The Spartans got 12 aces in winning 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-9) over North Beach at home to improve their record to 4-1.
Jayden Olson led the Spartans with six aces. Rian Peters had four aces and six kills, while Ellie Kilmer had seven kills. Natalie Lausche had seven kills and was 100 percent on her serves with two aces.
Setter Emily Adams had 15 assists and Kray Horton had eight assists.
“Myah Rondeau had a great night defensively. She was all over the court with great coverage,” said coach Jenn LeDuke.
“I felt like we as a team really lit up last night for the first time. Our energy was up and everyone hit really well. I think the game was great to get us ready for league,” said Lausche.
The Spartans (0-0, 4-1) open Evergreen 1A League play at Tenino at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
North Mason 3, Sequim 1
BELFAIR — An experienced, senior-heavy North Mason team was able to hold off a game Sequim squad 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-18, 25-17).
“We really wanted to beat them, we didn’t quite get enough passing,” said coach Jennie Webber-Heilman. North Mason has turned into one of the stronger teams in the Olympic League 2A Division with a 5-0 league record.
Hitter Kiana Robideau had 10 kills and nine digs. She had one block, but that was the Wolves’ only block of the night.
“That’s something we need to work on,” Webber-Heilman said.
Setter Kalli Wiker had 17 assists, six digs and was 11 for 11 on her serving. Kendall Hastings served 12 for 12 with three kills and Jordan Hegtvedt served 7 for 7. Jessica Asselin served 10 for 12 with nine digs.
Webber-Heilman said that Malory Morey, a sophomore on the JV team, came in and gave the Wolves a huge boost, especially in Game 2. She had a 7-point scoring run in that game to get Sequim back in the match. She finished serving 10-for-11.
Sequim (1-4, 1-5) next plays at home at 6:15 p.m. Thursday against Kingston (3-2, 5-2).
BOYS TENNIS
Port Angeles 7, Olympic 0
BREMERTON — The Riders traveled to Olympic on Tuesday and swept the Trojans, 7-0 to jump into second place in the Olympic League.
It was the Riders’ third-straight 7-0 victory over a league opponent.
Port Angeles didn’t drop a single set on the day.
“I was really impressed today from top to bottom,” said coach Brian Gundersen.
Gundersen singled out Wyatt Hall as the player of the match. Hall won his match 6-2, 6-0.
“Wyatt was doing a great job of making his opponent move side to side and capitalizing on mistakes,” Gundersen said.
The Roughriders (7-1) have a busy week, making up rainouts. They played at Sequim (5-3) after press deadline and then play a good Bremerton team (7-3) at home at 4 p.m. Thursday.

FORKS — The Forks soccer girls have scored five goals in their past two matches, but they’re still fighting for their first win.
The Spartans got goals from Elizabeth Jackson-Cruz and from Candida-Rose Sandoval. Sandoval’s came on a rebound off a penalty kick.
“I think they played really hard. We’re a growing team. We’re getting stronger every game,” said coach Tracy Gillett.
“It was a good game, I’m still really proud of them.”
Forks (0-1, 0-5) returns to league play at home at 6 p.m. Thursday, taking on first-place Montesano (1-0, 5-2).
