CHIMACUM — Foul trouble and a stagnant offense hampered Chimacum in a 41-17 loss to North Mason in a nonleague girls basketball game.
“I think we had a tough time adjusting to how the game was called,” coach Trevor Huntingford said of Monday’s game.
“Mia McNair and Clara Noble picked up two fouls in the first two minutes, so we were a little surprised how fast our starters were on the bench.”
Huntingford said his team wasn’t able to adjust.
“The foul trouble hurt us all night,” Huntingford said. “There was no opportunity to get rhythm — North Mason was hurt by it too.”
Chimacum handled the Bulldogs’ full-court pressure, but didn’t get the proper movement against North Mason’s 2-3 halfcourt zone.
“They were trying to bait us to make a weakside skip pass,” Huntingford said. “We did a pretty good job of not helping them there, but we held the ball too long and didn’t get the ball to open players quick enough. It limited our shot opportunities.”
The Cowboys (0-3) will visit Klahowya in their Olympic League 1A opener on Friday.

Boys Basketball Port Townsend 50, Bremerton 46
BREMERTON — The Redhawks got off to a hot start and held on late for their second straight win against a Class 2A Olympic League opponent.
“We got out to a real quick start and that’s pretty key when you play at Bremerton,” Port Townsend coach Tom Webster said. “They are going to press you and try to make you feel uncomfortable from the opening tip.”
Noa Montoya had 24 points for the Redhawks.
That included scoring 13 of the team’s 15 first-quarter points.
“Noa hit three 3s and two two[-point baskets] in the first quarter,” Webster said.
“He was feeling it.”
Bremerton erased most of Port Townsend’s seven-point halftime advantage, but Webster said the Redhawks “ended up finishing really well.”
This included not allowing the Knights to put up a potential game-tying 3-point shot in the final seconds.
Port Townsend (2-1) hosts Crosspoint today.

CHIMACUM — Isaac Purser led the Cowboys with 13 points and Cole Dotson added 10 in Chimacum’s season opener against the 2A Bulldogs.
Cody Clark also had nine points for the Cowboys.
“Our downfall was 27 turnovers,” Chimacum coach Mark Bennett said.
“The kids played hard against a bigger team. I am pleased with the progress they’ve made since the start of the season.”
The Cowboys (0-1) visit Klahoywa in Olympic League 1A Division play on Friday.
