PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles volleyball team came from behind to win a marathon five-set, 212-point match 3-2 (23-25, 25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 15-10) over 3A Bainbridge.
With such a long match, several Roughriders ended up with big stats. Outside hitter Lily Halberg led the Roughriders in Monday night’s match with 16 kills and 29 digs. Setter Josephine Edgington had 37 assists and seven aces, serving 94.7 percent on 19 serves. Libero Cindy Liang had 36 digs.
Ava Hairell and Jasmine Messinger each had eight kills, while Mary Halberg had eight assists and seven digs. Alexis Petty had 19 digs and a pair of aces and Heidi Leitz contributed six kills.
With the win, the Riders (8-4, 8-5) are in a tie for third place in the Olympic 2A League and are assured to make the District 2/3 Tournament. They have a chance to finish as high as second in the league with two final home matches at 6:45 p.m. Thursday against a struggling Bremerton (0-12, 0-13) team and at 6:45 p.m. Monday against North Mason (4-7, 4-7).
Forks 3, Ocosta 0
OCOSTA — Forks remained solidly in second place in the Pacific 2B League with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-23) win that was closer than the score shows.
“First set was close and then we definitely stepped up and finished strong,” said coach Jenn LeDuke. “Proud of how they all are working together on the court.”
Kyra Neel led the Spartans with 10 kills, while Kaidence Rigby had eight kills and four blocks and Kadie Wood had eight kills and two aces. Erika Williams had 25 assists and three kills, Chloe Gaydeski-St. John had four aces and Eladia Hernandez-Stansbury served 100 percent.
“We had some downs, but we definitely had a lot more ups,” LeDuke said.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak.
Tonight, the Spartans (9-3, 10-5) play their final regular season home match against Chief Leschi (0-11, 1-13) and will honor seniors Neel, Wood and Maren McCracken.
District playoffs begin Saturday with Forks hosting as the No. 2 seed out of the Pacific. The Spartans will play the No. 8 seed out of the Central 2B League at 1 p.m.
In another Monday night match, East Jefferson lost to Life Christian 3-2.
