PREP ROUNDUP: Port Angeles tennis swept by North Kitsap

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders ran into a buzzsaw on Monday as they lost their home opener versus Olympic League rival North Kitsap 7-0.

“North [Kitsap] is talented, experienced and deep,” said Port Angeles head coach Brian Gundersen. “We’re pretty young, only two seniors in the lineup on Monday, so this was a great learning experience for us. Our guys competed and this will be motivating moving forward.”

North Kitsap won all in straight sets. The doubles team of Austin Worthington and Grant Butterworth had the tightest match, falling to the Vikings’ duo of Justin Gallant and Masen Repp 6-3, 7-5.

Port Angeles played at Kingston on Tuesday after press deadline. The next match for the Riders (3-1) is 4 p.m. Thursday, hosting Olympic Peninsula rival Sequim (2-2).
