BREMERTON — The Port Angeles girls swim and dive team finished third out of 16 schools at the West Central District 2/3 championships held this weekend.
The Riders came within two points of finishing second. Sammamish won the meet with 277 points, while Enunclaw was second at 183. Port Angeles tallied 181.
East Jefferson came in 11th with 41 points, while Sequim was 12th with 35.
The Roughriders didn’t win any races, but had several strong results.
The Roughriders’ top finish was second in both the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays. The team of Lizzy Shaw, Danika Asgeirsson, Harper McGuire and Mackenzie DuBois finished the 200 with a time of 1:48.22. The East Jefferson team of Akeyla Berhenfeld, Serena Hanbey-Perless, Juliette O’Hara and Tallulah Sebastian came in ninth (1:56.31).
In the 400, the Port Angeles team of McGuire, Yau Fu, Asgeirsson and DuBois finished with a time of 3:56.4. East Jefferson (Hanbey-Perless, Tallulah Sebastian, Magdaline Ferland and Berhenfeld) finished fifth in the same race (4:24.32), while Sequim (Annie Ellefson, Natalie Cross, Melia Nelson and Hi’ilei Robinson) won the B Final in 4:17.2, coming in seventh officially though the team had a better time than some of the A Final teams.
The Port Angeles 200 medley relay team (Brooke St. Luise, Rachel Cooper, Fu and Shaw) came in third with a time of 2 minutes, 4.67 seconds. In the same race, Sequim (Cross, Ellefson, Nelson and Robinson) came in eighth (2:11.89) and East Jefferson (Hanbey-Perless, Melody Douglas, Berhenfeld and O’Hara) finished ninth (2:13.43).
DuBois also had a strong district meet as an individual competitor. She finished third in the 100 butterfly (1:01.89). Her teammate Sara Wilson came in eighth (1:08) and Sequim’s Nelson finished 12th (1:14.52).
DuBois also finished fourth in the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:18.74. Wilson finished eighth in the same race (2:30.16).
Port Angeles’ McGuire finished fourth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:09. Teammate Asgeirsson finished seventh in the same race at 2:13.31, while Sequim’s Ellefson was ninth at 2:15.69.
Fu finished fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:51.9), while fellow Riders McGuire were sixth (5:53.29) and Lynzee Reid seventh (6:00.03). Cross of Sequim was 10th (6:24.47).
Asgeirsson was sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:06.84) and Cooper was sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.85). Ellefson was ninth in the breaststroke (1:19.39).

50 freestyle — Shaw, PA, 11th, 27.73.

Volleyball Forks to state
RAYMOND — Playing on their opponents’ home court, the Forks volleyball team had to win its final match at the District 4 2B tournament to qualify for state.
The Spartans then went out and swept Raymond 3-0 to earn a trip to the 2B state tournament.
Forks (13-7 overall) did it the hard way, moving into the consolation bracket and then moving into a loser-out, winner-to-state match with three wins and two losses during the district tournament.
Raymond had beaten the Spartans 3-2 in two matches this season. Raymond also went 12-0 in Pacific 2B League play.
Forks will begin play at state Thursday. The Spartans are a No. 16 seed and start off playing No. 1 seed Kalama. However, win or lose, the Spartans move on to play more matches.
