POULSBO — The Port Angeles girls swim team traveled to Poulsbo this Saturday to compete in the 11-team Swimvitational Meet, finishing fourth out of 11 mostly 3A teams.
Each team could only field a maximum of eight swimmers. The Roughriders tallied 135 points to Gig Harbor’s 250, Silas’ 222 and Central Kitsap’s 181. East Jefferson was 10th with 48 points.
Leading the charge for the Riders was Harper McGuire, who accumulated 20 individual points towards the team’s total. McGuire was a strong fourth in the 500 freestyle and touched in sixth in the 200 freestyle.
Yau Fu also had a standout performance, clinching the highest individual place for PA with a third-place finish in the 100 butterfly. Fu achieved a personal season-best by shaving off 1.64 seconds off her time, edging herself two seconds closer to a state-qualifying time.
Danika Asgeirsson was the most improved Port Angeles swimmer, dropping 3.88 seconds off her time in the 100 freestyle, securing a 10th-place finish. Asgeirsson and teammate Brooke St. Luise both swam new district- qualifying times in that event.
All three Roughriders relay teams finished in the top 10. The 200 freestyle relay squad of Lizzy Shaw, Asgeirsson, Fu and McGuire came in fourth. The 400 freestyle relay team, featuring Lynzee Reid, Amayah Nelson, Shaw and Fu, matched that achievement with another fourth.
The 200 medley relay team of Asgeirsson, Nelson, Reid and Emerson DuBois came in sixth.
The Riders next swim at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday against Sequim at the Sequim YMCA.
Boys Tennis
Port Angeles 6, Bremerton 1
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles hosted the Bremerton Knights on Friday and ran their season record to 7-1 by defeating the Knights 6-1.
The Riders swept all four doubles matches and won the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches — CJ Elliott and Carter Gundersen — all in straight sets.
“The guys are working hard and continuing to improve, and it showed on the court today,” said coach Brian Gundersen.
The Riders have a big week coming up with a Wednesday match versus Bainbridge Island (3-3) at 4 p.m. and away at North Kitsap (8-0) on Thursday.

Volleyball
Forks 3, Ocosta 1
OCOSTA — The Forks volleyball team improved to 5-2 on the season with a 3-1 win (25-14, 25-17, 22-25, 25-20) over Ocosta last week.
Erika Williams led the Spartans in Thursday night’s match with 17 assists and three aces, while Kaidance Rigby had five kills and four stuff blocks.
Eladia Hernandez-Stansbury served 15-for-16 with three aces and five digs, while Chloe Gaydeski-St. John served 13-for-14 with seven digs.
Elizabeth Soto added eight digs and Keana Rowley four aces.
The Spartans next play at home at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday against Chief Leschi.
In other games late last week, Sequim beat Bremerton 3-0, Bainbridge won 3-0 over Port Angeles and Annie Wright won 3-0 over East Jefferson.
East Jefferson (3-5, 4-5) hosts Cascade Christian at 6:30 p.m. today in Chimacum, while Sequim (4-2, 4-3) hosts Kingston on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. and Port Angeles (2-4, 2-5) hosts Bremerton at 6:45 p.m. Neah Bay (6-0) hosts Chief Kitsap at 5:45 p.m.
