BREMERTON — The Port Angeles girls swim team beat Bremerton this weekend 118-43.
Gaining first-place finishes for the Roughriders was the 200 medley relay squad of Harper McGuire, Rachel Cooper, Yau Fu and Mackenzie DuBois, which finished 11 seconds ahead of Bremerton’s relay team.
Port Angeles then went on to sweep the top three varsity spots in four individual events.
In the 200 freestyle, Brooke St. Luise won a close race touching in just .45 seconds before teammate Lynzee Reid, and Emerson DuBois captured third. The Riders repeated the trifecta in the 200 individual medley with McGuire claiming first, Sara Wilson second and Lizzy Shaw third.
The Roughriders dominated the 100 backstroke event. Danika Asgeirsson swam to victory with a 14-second margin. Lizzy Shaw clocked in second and Emerson DuBois grabbed another third, finishing 36 seconds ahead of Bremerton’s fourth-place finisher.
In the 100 freestyle, Mackenzie DuBois claimed top honors while also earning her third state-qualifying time. McGuire touched in second, just .42 seconds behind, and Cooper nabbed third.
“Mackenzie is having a fantastic senior year. It’s fun to see her surpass state milestones in different events each week,” said head coach Sally Cole.
Other individual victories were swum by Yau Fu in the 100 butterfly and Rachel Cooper in the 100 breaststroke. The 200 freestyle relay crew of Mackenzie DuBois, Shaw, Fu and McGuire picked up another first for the Riders, while the 400 freestyle relay team of Asgeirsson, Shaw, Wilson and Cooper ended the meet with a win.
Among the highlights, freshman Lynzee Reid made her debut in the 500 freestyle.
“Lynzee swam a very smart race. We strategized about how to best swim the 500 and she executed the plan brilliantly,” Cole said. “She had enough kick left in her in at the end to overtake her nearest competitor by 4 seconds in the last 100 yards and finish second.”
Port Angeles hosts Sequim at Shore Aquatic Center on Wednesday.

East Jefferson 8, Seattle Chr. 2
CHIMACUM — East Jefferson got a hat trick from Ava Shiflett and two goals from Audrey Matthes, easily beating a shorthanded Seattle Christian team 8-2.
It was the third win out of their last four matches for the Rivals. They have won their last two matches by the combined score of 14-2.
Coach Rob Cantley said Seattle Christian arrived with just 10 players so East Jefferson agreed to play with 10. Two Seattle Christian players got hurt during the match the teams were playing 8-on-8 by the end.
“It’s good for us to get some wins. We need wins for playoff positioning,” Cantley said.
Kay Botkin scored a goal and Ivy Mattern got a goal with an assist to Kaylin Pray, who made a nice crossing pass. Pray picked up a goal for herself toward the end of the match.
East Jefferson (3-2-2) plays at Life Christian today. Cantley said Life Christian only has eight players available, but that East Jefferson will play 8-on-8.

Port Angeles at Monarch Challenge
LONGVIEW — The Port Angeles volleyball team won two matches and lost three at the Monarch Challenge at Mark Morris High School.
Lily Halberg tallied 40 digs, 15 kills and seven aces at the tournament, while Josephine Edgington had 32 assists, nine kills and nine aces.
Mary Halberg had nine kills, 12 assists, 11 digs and four aces, while Cindy Liang had 51 digs and four aces, while Ava Hairell had eight kills and seven aces.
Alexis Perry and Jasmine Messinger each added five kills and four aces.
The Roughriders (4-2, 4-3) return to Olympic League play at Bremerton (0-6, 0-6) 2A today.
