PREP ROUNDUP: Port Angeles swimmers dominate Bremerton

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles girls’ swim team delivered an exceptional performance on Monday, securing a resounding 123-50 victory over Bremerton.

The Roughriders swept numerous events and set new district qualifying times.

The Port Angeles 200 medley relay team started the meet on a high note by winning the opening race. The team of Danika Asgeirsson, Brooke St. Luise, Amayah Nelson and Harper McGuire set the tone for the rest of the competition.

They then dominated the 200 freestyle. Lizzy Shaw claimed first place, with Emerson DuBois securing second, significantly improving her previous best time by 12 seconds. Olivia Mesen rounded out the top three.

In the 100 butterfly, Port Angeles swept the podium again. Amayah Nelson earned first, while Damun Seera made a remarkable improvement, taking second and shaving four seconds from her previous best. Emerson Dubois secured third place.

The Riders maintained their control over the meet by sweeping the 500 freestyle. St. Luise seized first place, with Shaw following closely in second and Chloe Kay-Sanders taking third.

The 200 freestyle relay team, composed of Faye Dachs, Lynzee Reid, McGuire and Shaw, clinched the top spot.

McGuire concluded the individual swim events with another win for the Riders in the 100 breaststroke. To seal the victory, the 400 freestyle relay team of Shaw, St. Luise, Nelson and Asgeirsson earned yet another first-place finish.

Setting new district qualifying times were Shaw in the 200 and 500 freestyle, McGuire in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, St. Luise in the 500 freestyle and Amayah Nelson in the 100 backstroke.

Up next, the Roughriders (2-1) hit the road to take on Kingston (0-1) at 3:30 p.m. today.

East Jefferson 3, Vashon 2

CHIMACUM — The East Jefferson volleyball team battled back during a marathon five-set match to beat Vashon 3-2 (26-24, 25-16, 18-25, 23-25, 15-13) for its second Nisqually League win of the year.

East Jefferson (2-4, 3-4) next hosts Life Christian (2-3, 2-3) at 6:30 p.m. today at Chimacum High School.
