PREP ROUNDUP: Port Angeles softball wins again behind trio of home runs

GIG HARBOR — The Port Angeles softball team remained unbeaten, getting past 3A Gig Harbor 14-13 thanks to the Roughriders’ defense and home runs from Lily Halberg, Abby Kimball and Heidi Leitz.

Halberg and Kimball hit their second home runs of the young season. Kimball’s and Leitz’s shots were two-run homers. Kimball finished 3-for-4 and Leitz 2-for-4.

Kennedy Rognlien and Ava-Anne Sheanhan also hit 2-for-4 as the Riders tallied a total of 15 hits.

Coach Morgan Worthington credited the Riders’ “tight defense” for the win. The winning pitcher was Cheyenne Zimmer, who gave up seven hits and three walks while striking out seven.

In three games so far this season, the Roughriders have scored 44 runs.

Port Angeles (0-0, 3-0) was scheduled to play its first Olympic League game at Bremerton on Tuesday after press deadline.

Baseball

Vashon 17, East Jefferson 4

CHIMACUM — East Jefferson was victimized by a couple of bad innings in a 17-4 loss to Vashon on Monday.

The Rivals gave up seven runs in the fourth and six in the seventh, but otherwise played evenly with Vashon.

Sean Jones went 2-for-2 with a run and a walk. Rylan Dunn had a hit, a run, an RBI and walk, Brody Moore had a hit, run and RBI, while Aaron Glanz had a hit and a run scored.

Moore pitched well in relief, going 2⅔ innings, giving up one earned run. He struck out five.

East Jefferson (0-2, 0-2) is scheduled to host Cascade Christian for a doubleheader in Chimacum beginning at 4 p.m. today.

Saturday’s game

Sequim 9, Crosspoint 4

SEQUIM — The Sequim baseball team rode a seven-run fourth inning in beating Crosspoint 9-4 over the weekend.

The Wolves tallied 14 hits in moving their record to 3-2. Lincoln Bear went 3-for-3 with an RBI, Braydan White hit a pair of triples and had two RBIs and a run scored. Devyn Dearinger went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Hunter Tennell went 2-for-3 and two RBIs. Bryant LaBoy went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

Adrian Aragon collected the victory on the mound. He pitched the final two innings and allowed no runs and two hits.

Sequim is next set to play East Jefferson at 4 p.m. Friday at Chimacum.
