PREP ROUNDUP: Port Angeles softball gets past Olympic

Victory vaults Riders into second place

OLYMPIC — The Port Angeles softball team got a measure of revenge, coming back to beat Olympic 7-6 on Monday after losing to the Trojans last week.

The game was a continuation of a game postponed in late March due to actions of fans and coaches in Bremerton.

The victory vaulted the Riders into second place in the Olympic League with three league home games remaining for Port Angeles.

Cheyenne Zimmer was the winning pitcher, going 6⅔ innings. She had four strikeouts and two walks. Heidi Leitz came in to get the final out on a ground ball to second base for the save. Leitz also added a two-run home run to provide the winning margin.

Lily Halberg was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple. Natalie Robinson was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Taylor Worthingon had a hit and two RBIs, while Lexie Smith added a single.

Port Angeles (7-2, 12-2) finally gets to play first-place North Kitsap (8-0, 11-0) on the road on Thursday. The Riders, who have barely played any home games this year, finish the season with three home games at Dry Creek Elementary against Kingston on Tuesday, North Kitsap on May 11 and Sequim on May 12. All three of those teams are in the Olympic League playoff mix and all three games are at 4:15 p.m.

Baseball Olympic 6, Sequim 0

BREMERTON — The Sequim baseball team managed just four hits against a pair of Olympic pitchers as the Wolves were shut out 6-0 on Monday.

It was only the second loss in the past eight games for the Wolves.

Sequim got good pitching performances from Toppy Robideau, Lincoln Bear and Bryant Laboy, who gave up just six hits and three walks, but simply ran into a buzzsaw in Olympic’s Antonio Castorena and John Hutchins, who combined for four hits and one walk in pitching the combined shutout.

Robideau went five innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out seven.

Ayden Holland had a double for Sequim, while Ricky Jennings, Devyn Dearinger and Hunter Tennell had singles.

It was a cleanly played game as the two teams combined for one error.

Sequim (5-9, 9-9) played Tuesday against East Jefferson (1-16) after press deadline. The Wolves wrap up their regular season at Olympic (8-6, 11-8) on Thursday.
