BELFAIR — The Roughriders boys tennis team started league with a 7-0 victory on the road against North Mason.
The Roughriders relied on their experience with eight seniors in the varsity lineup on their way to victory, according to coach Brian Gundersen.
“North Mason has a lot of new players, so our experience really paid off,” Gundersen said.
In fact, the Roughrider players won every match in straight sets and only lost five games all day.
Port Angeles (1-0) has its home opener at the high school courts at 4 p.m. today against Bainbridge Island.

SEQUIM — Behind the strong play of its singles players, the Sequim boys tennis team held off Kingston 4-3 in the Wolves’ home opener.
No. 1 singles player Jack Crecelius came from behind, losing his first set 6-3 but bouncing back 6-1, 6-0 in the next two sets to beat Joshua Van Huis. Zack Post and Isaac McKeen both won their matches easily in straight sets.
Among the doubles players, Lincoln Bear and Mason Rapelje won their match 6-1, 6-2.
Lucas Enges and Tegan Kurtze had a tough match, having to go to a tiebreaker. They finally fell 6-4, 7-6, (7-4). Ryan Stites and Ian Baylon also had a close match, falling 6-4, 7-5.
Sequim (1-0) next hosts North Mason at 4 p.m. today.

JOYCE — The Crescent volleyball team got off to a winning start with a 3-0 (25-7, 25-6, 25-23) victory over Concordia Christian.
“[It was] a great opening start to our season. Katelyn Dunavant had six kills. Hayden Horn 10 assists. Payton Fieldsend came in a big way, serving 100 percent, and finished a 15-point comeback in the last set,” said coach Kimber Sprague.
The Loggers (1-0) next play at 5:45 p.m. at home today against Quilcene.
Sammamish 3, Port Angeles 0
SAMMAMISH — The Port Angeles volleyball team lost its season opener 3-1 (25-11, 24-26, 28-26, 25-13) against Sammamish.
Josie Wood had five kills and a block while Kenzie Moses had four kills and two digs.
Hannah Hairell finished with three kills and two aces, and Jordin Dunaway had two kills, two aces and five digs. Heidi Leitz finished with two aces, five assists and five digs.
