LACEY — Heidi Leitz threw a complete game five-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts, Ava-Anne Sheahan and Kennedy Rognlien homered and the Roughriders moved within a win of sealing a return trip to the state tournament with a 6-0 win over North Mason on Friday in the Class 2A District 3 softball tournament at the Regional Athletic Complex.
Port Angeles (17-2) will face North Kitsap (14-5) in a winner-to-state district semifinal today at 5 p.m. back at the RAC.

LACEY — The Wolves were knocked out of the district tournament Friday, but they didn’t go out quietly, bashing 17 hits, including two home runs from senior Grace Gardner.
Gardner went 3-for-5, knocking a three-run home run in the fourth inning and putting Sequim up 14-13 with a solo shot to open the sixth frame.
Kylie Winter also had a big day at bat, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs in her last game for Sequim.
Senior Hannah Giddens also had three hits, a walk and drove in three runs.

Port Angeles 5, Washington 1
LAKEWOOD — Port Angeles scored two early goals and kept the firepower directed at the opposition goal in a loser-out win in the Class 2A District 3 boys soccer tournament in the rain Thursday at Harry Lang Stadium.
“It was one of PA’s best games of the season in terms of the quality of goals and passing involved to create the chances,” coach Chris Saari said.
The Roughriders will face Franklin Pierce (12-3-1) in a winner-to-state, loser-out game today at 3 p.m. back at Harry Lang Stadium.
Thursday night, Matthew Miller and Kanyon Anderson combined on the first-half scores, with Miller getting an assist on Anderson’s seventh-minute strike.
Anderson returned the favor in the 21st.
Port Angeles opened up a 3-0 advantage early in the second half with Miller involved in setting up the score.
“Miller again got the assist on a through ball over the head of the Patriot left back to an on-rushing Roldan Lara. Lara took a couple touches and then volleyed a shot to the far post as the keeper came out to cut down the angle,” Saari said.
Roldan broke his collarbone in the second game of the season and had missed six weeks of play.
“The Rider sideline erupted as Roldan ran over toward the bench after his goal to celebrate with his teammates,” Saari said.
Miller assisted on his third goal in the 51st minute, making space for himself on the left wing and crossing the ball to Jacob Weaver in the middle of the field for a short header goal.
Miller added his second goal in the 74th minute off of an Oliver Martinez pass for the 5-1 advantage.
