CHIMACUM — Sophomore midfielder Dayton Williams and junior forward Hayden Desser each recorded their first varsity goals as the Port Angeles boys soccer team earned its first win and shutout in a 2-0 win over East Jefferson.
Desser found Williams with a through ball in the 12th minute, and Williams slipped behind the defense on the right side and placed a shot inside his foot off the far post to go up 1-0.
“Hayden gave me a good pass, and I was able to place it well to the far post and get the team off to a good start,” Williams said.
Desser was returned the favor when he received a nice pass of his own in the 26th minute from freshman Kaleb Gagnon in behind the defense, dribbled to his right past the keeper and placed the ball into an empty net for his first varsity goal.
East Jefferson had a couple chances in the game, but Riders’ sophomore goalie Logan Desser picked up his first shutout.
“Sean Rankin was solid at the back for us with his clearances, distribution and breaking up plays,” Port Angeles coach Chris Saari said.
Rankin was the team’s defensive player of the match.
Saari picked Hayden Desser as the offensive player of the match.
“Kaleb Gagnon provide a spark when he played up top and got a nice assist to Hayden Desser,” Saari said.
Gagnon and Williams were the team’s transition players of the match.
Port Angeles (1-2) visits Olympic today while East Jefferson (0-3) travels to Klahowya.
