SEQUIM — The Port Angeles baseball team pulled into a tie for a playoff berth, getting a one-hitter from Kole Acker and a big game at the plate from Elijah Flodstrom in a 14-1 win over Sequim on Monday.
Acker pitched the entire game, allowing one earned run on four walks and four strikeouts.
Flodstrom went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, three runs scored and four RBIs. He also stole a base. Colton Romero also hit a triple and scored a run, while Ezra Townsend had a pair of hits, two runs scored and two walks. Beckett Jarnigan had two hits, Kaleb Mullen had two RBIs and Payton Cagey had two runs scored.
A trio of Sequim pitchers, Connor Bear, Toppy Robideau and Isaac Moore only allowed a total of nine hits, but six errors hurt the Wolves, allowing six unearned runs.
Bear had Sequim’s hit. He also had an RBI.
The win put the Riders in the middle of a big logjam for third- to sixth-place in the Olympic League, with four of the Olympic 2A teams automatically qualifying for the district tournament. Other teams might make it based on RPI.
Bainbridge is leading the league but will go to a 3A district tournament. North Kitsap is the top 2A team (and ranked No. 1 in the state in RPI) in the league and in second place.
Olympic is in third place at 7-5, Port Angeles and Bremerton are tied for fourth at 6-6 and Kingston is sixth at 5-7.
Port Angeles (8-9 overall) had a doubleheader against North Mason (1-9, 2-11) on Tuesday after press deadline to conclude the regular season. If the Riders sweep that doubleheader, it will help their playoff positioning tremendously.
Postseason play begins next Tuesday.

Sequim 156, Olympic 197
SEQUIM — Led by a hot Ben Sweet, who fired a 4-under-par 32, the Sequim boys golf team sent notice at the conclusion of the regular season that they will be a force in the postseason, beating Olympic by 41 strokes, 156-197.
“Ben started strong, hitting his approach on No. 2 to within inches. He then birdied three to move to 2-under through three holes, yet suffered a tough bogey on the fourth. From there, he put it in cruise control, birdieing 6, 7 and 9,” said coach Sean O’Mera.
“It was really fun to see Ben play well, and I am incredibly excited to see how Ben plays in the big tournaments we have coming up,” O’Mera said.
Dominic Riccobene carded a 1-over-par 37. “Dominic didn’t have his best game today, but he scored well and made many great saves,” O’Mera said.
Cole Smithson continued his strong play of late, firing a 6-over par 42.
“Cole’s game has gotten so much better in the last few weeks. Cole hasn’t yet played really well all the way through nine holes. I know it will happen soon,” O’Mera said.
Pryce Glasser finished with a 45, though O’Mera said he didn’t have his best day. “This is not indicative of how Pryce can play, and as usual, Pryce’s attitude was fantastic, despite not playing as well as he could. I am really excited to see how Pryce plays over the next few weeks,” he said.
Zackary Thompson shot a 46, lower than he has shot recently. Rounding out the scoring was Lars Wiker with a 51.
The Wolves next play at the Bill Egbers Memorial tournament Friday at Skagit Country Club. On Monday, the Wolves head to Kitsap Golf and Country Club in Bremerton to play in the Olympic League Championship.
Boys soccer
Ilwaco 3, Forks 0
ILWACO — The Forks boys soccer team finds itself in a must-win situation to make sure it gets into postseason play after losing 3-0 to Ilwaco on the road Monday.
“Their field was horrible,” said coach Ismael Ramos. “That’s not an excuse by any means. It was a team loss. No one person was to blame.”
Forks (8-5 in league, 9-6 overall) is still in third place in the Pacific 2B League.
The Spartans finish the regular season today at Raymond. The good news is Forks beat Raymond 8-0 earlier in the year and the Seagulls are 0-12. A victory locks up a third-place finish.
Ramos said he stressed to the players that they can’t get overcinfident, however. They had beaten Ilwaco earlier in the year, as well as Hoquiam, but then lost to them in a rematch last week.
“I feel that’s part of what happened against Ilwaco and Hoquiam. I said, ‘guys, we gotta learn from that.’ ”
