ARLINGTON — The Port Angeles girls had a great cross country meet at the Hole-in-The-Wall Invite, coming in second place as a team out of 21 schools as three runners finished in the top 15.
The Roughriders were led by Gracie Long, who finished third out of 181 runners from a variety of classifications with a time of 19 minutes, 35.1 seconds. Her teammate Lauren Larson finished 10th with a time of 20:04.2, while Madelyn Dougherty was 15th with a time of 20:16.8.
The girls had 80 team points to first-place Camas’ 45. All but one of the girls’ runners for the Riders ran a personal-best time.
“It felt good to have a strong race today, and everyone’s PR … reflected that,” Dougherty said after the race.
The Port Angeles boys as a team finished 22nd out of 36 boys’ teams at the meet. The Riders boys were led by Gabriel Long with a time of 17:55.9, good for 77th out of 262 runners. His teammate Thomas Shaw was right behind at 17:57.5, good for 82nd.
“I finally broke under 18 minutes today. We have been doing lots of speed work in practice,” Shaw said after the race.

Forks at Bill Kehoe South Sound Invite
LACEY — The Forks girls came in 12th out of 20 mostly larger schools at the Bill Kehoe South Sound Invite.
Marissa Bailey led the Forks girls Saturday, coming in 11th out of 151 runners with a time of 20 minutes, 32.50 seconds.
The Forks girls were without one of their top runners, Enid Ensastegui, or they might’ve finished even higher. Also for the girls, Forks’ Madison Carlson won the junior varsity race with a time of 22:11.57
For the boys, Luis Perez had the best time for the Spartans at 18:23.71, good for 74th out of 171 runners.

Volleyball
Sequim 3, Olympic 1
SEQUIM — Sequim remained in the mix for a postseason spot by dominating down the stretch to beat Olympic 3-1.
The Wolves won Thursday’s match 25-17, 22-25, 25-8, 25-16 to tie for third in the Olympic League 2A Division with a 4-4 league record.
Setters Kalli Wiker and Brittney Gale combined for 11 aces on their serves and 33 assists. Wiker had 13 assists with six aces on 17 for 18 serving, while Gale had 20 assists with five aces on 25 for 27 serving. Gale added 13 digs.
Tayler Breckenridge had a good all-around match, leading Sequim with 15 kills and 22 digs, while serving 19 for 20 with three aces. Isabelle Dennis added 18 digs and Arlene Law contributed 13 kills and two blocks.
The Wolves (4-4, 5-4) are tied with Kingston and North Mason for third place, with the top four schools going to the league postseason tournament. While Sequim has been swept by Kingston, the Wolves have beaten North Mason and get the Bulldogs again on Oct. 12. Sequim will first play a nonleague match at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday against Coupeville.
