PREP ROUNDUP: PA swimmers rule Klahowya; gymnasts begin season

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders claimed 11 of 12 events to sink the Eagles in their home opener at William Shore Memorial Pool.

“The first-place finishes include senior and co-captain Josh Gavin in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly,” coach Sally Cole said.

“Junior Alex Che claimed top stops in the 50 free and 500 free. Junior Landon Close made his diving debut capturing 153.15 points.

“Freshman Adam Weller took home top honors in the 100 free and the 200 individual medley. And freshman Blake Nahory pulled in a win in the 100 backstroke.”

Port Angeles also dominated the relays in style.

“All three Roughrider relay teams finished first while also managing to clock in personal best times for the season,” Cole said.

Nahory, Weller, Gavin and Che combined for the 200 individual medley relay; Close, Weller, Gavin and Che won the 200 free and Adam Boyd, Colby Ellefson, Close and Nahory claimed the 400 free.

Gymnastics

BAINBRIDGE — The Port Angeles/Sequim/Crescent gymnastics team went to Bainbridge Island High School for the team’s opening meet of the year.

Bainbridge earned 151.9 points to Port Angeles/Sequim/ Crescent’s 123.

Coming in third in the overall was freshman Jessamyn Schindler with a score of 30.10. She came third in the vault (8.1 score), third in the bars (6.3) and third in the floor exercise (8.2). She finished fourth in the beam a score of 7.5.
