PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles’ Matthew Miller scored his first hat trick of the season while Gus Halberg earned his fourth shutout of the year as the Roughriders boys soccer team beat Steilacoom 4-0 on Saturday in the very first game every play a the new Monroe Field.
Kanyon Anderson had two assists and scored his second goal of the season, with the assist going to Miller.
“Taihvan Lyle stood out for PA at the back with his defensive positioning, composure on the ball, and distribution. Jackson Wyall also earned defensive player of the match with his aggressive pressure on the ball and ball winning,” said coach Chris Saari.
Saari named Miller his offensive player of the match and Lyle and Jackson Wyall his defensive players of the match. He named Anderson his transition player of the match.
Port Angeles (4-2, 6-3) returns to Wally Sigmar Field at Peninsula College at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, hosting North Mason (1-5, 1-7) for an Olympic League match.
Track and Field Port Angeles at Mount Tahoma Track Festival
TACOMA — The Port Angeles girls track and field team got outstanding performances from Faerin Tait and Teanna Clark to help finish seventh out of 30 teams at the Mount Tahoma Track Festival.
Tait won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 47.47 seconds, a season-best time for her. She was also second in the 100 hurdles in 16.1 seconds and third in the 200 meters in a personal-record time of 26.74 seconds. Her 300 hurdles time is fifth-best in the state among 2A girls while her season-best time of 15.9 seconds in the 100 hurdles, set at a meet last week, is fourth best.
Teanna Clark, who placed third at state in the javelin last year, got off to a good start this season with a throw of 103 feet, 6 inches, a 16-foot improvement over her first meet of the year and good for second at the Mount Tahoma meet.
Storey Schmidt also finished seventh in the 400 meters in a personal-record time of 1:04.21, while Leia Larson was 12th running in the elite division of the 1,600 meters in a time of 5:43.61.
The top boys’ showing was by Brody Pierce in the triple jump with a distance of 42 feet, 7½ inches, a personal record.
Easton Dempsey came in sixth in the 800-meter run in a personal-record time of 2:00.22, while Jude Wallace was sixth in the pole vault with a height of 11 feet, 0 inches.
The boys did well in the relays. The 4×200 relay team of Liam Wilson, Logan Wilson, Hunter Eller and Gregory Jordan was fifth in a time of 1:35.55, while the 4×400 relay team of Finn Thompson, Kaiden Point, Dempsey and Eller was sixth in a time of 3:44.79. The 4×100 team of the Wilson siblings, Point and Eller was eighth in 45.62.
Finally, Thompson was ninth in the 300 hurdles in a personal-record time of 45.94, while Point was 10th in the triple jump with a personal-record distance of 38-11.
The boys finished 15th as a team. Both the Olympic boys and girls teams won their respective meets.
