SEATAC — Alyssa Vandenberg’s putback with less than five seconds remaining lifted East Jefferson to a 31-29 Nisqually League girls basketball road win over Seattle Christian on Saturday.
The Rivals led the game 23-17 entering the fourth quarter and had to withstand the Warriors’ fourth-quarter rally.
“They made a run and tied it,” coach Lorraine Rimson said. “We got the ball back. Maddy Harris took a shot with about 10 seconds and Alyssa got the rebound. Her shot was on the rim and literally was slowly rolling around … and then went down. There was roughly 4.5 seconds left and we played good defense. They didn’t get a shot off. [We all felt] relief. And glee.”
East Jefferson (5-5, 6-8) hosts Life Christian on Tuesday.

NEAH BAY — The No. 1-ranked Red Devils made quick work of the Hawks, rolling out to a 29-0 lead after the first quarter.
Neah Bay shot 34 of 68 (50 percent) from the floor as a team, including hitting 7 of 16 3-point baskets.
The Red Devils were led by Ryana Moss and Allie Greene with 13 points apiece.
Moss added seven rebounds, an assist and a steal. Greene buried 3 of 5 3-point shots and had two steals.

Riders split meets
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles split a pair of boys swim meets last week, beating Olympic 114-54 and falling 94-85 to North Kitsap on the road Friday.
Coach Sally Cole said the Roughriders edged the Vikings 85-84 in swimming events, but North Kitsap divers swept the final points and claimed the win.
Blake Nahory nabbed the first win for Port Angeles in the 200-yard individual medley, touching in six seconds ahead of North Kitsap. In the 100 backstroke, it was Nahory again with the win, and teammate Finn Thompson right behind in second.
Alex Che won a close race in the 50 freestyle, finishing .11 seconds ahead of the Vikings.
“This was a big win for Che,” Cole said. “Not only did he earn top points for the Riders, he also swam a PR for the season, putting him in striking distance of a state time.”
Colby Ellefson topped the field in the 500 free by over 13 seconds.
In the 100 free, Che, Thompson and Keane McClain all swam their fastest while Thompson also secured his place at districts.
In the 100 breaststroke final, the Riders’ Nolan Medgin and Butterworth touched in third and fourth, respectively, with Medgin grabbing a personal best.
Port Angeles’ 400 free relay team of Ellefson, Nahory, Close and Che concluded the meet with a win.
Against Olympic, the Riders won eight of 11 events.
Che, Ellefson and Landon Close swept the top three spots in the 200 IM, while Che, Will Roening and McClain swept the 100 butterfly.
Port Angeles swims against Kingston on Wednesday at Shore Aquatic Center.
