PREP ROUNDUP: Forks spikers fall to Rochester; Sequim swimmers beat Port Townsend

FORKS — Forks gave Rochester a tough time in a closely contested four-set match but fell 3-1 at home Thursday.

The Spartans lost 25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 25-18 to the Warriors.

Rian Peters led the way with 14 kills and two blocks up front for Forks.

Natalie Lausche added six kills and five aces for the Spartans, while Kyra Neel chipped in with six kills and three blocks.

Jayden Olson added five kills and Chloe Leverington four kills and a pair of blocks.

Libero Myah Rondeau totaled two kills and 10 digs and Kray Horton had 16 assists for the Spartans.

Forks (4-1) hosts North Beach on Tuesday.

Girls Swimming

Sequim 106, Port Townsend 62

SEQUIM — The Wolves splashed their way to one state qualifying time and numerous district qualifying marks in a win over the Redhawks at the Sequim YMCA on Thursday.

Mia Coffman will swim at state after earning a qualifying time of 5 minutes, 43.32 seconds to claim the 500-yard freestyle.

Coffman also earned a district time while winning the 50 free in 27.03. She was followed in the 50 free by Lauren Sundin (29.03) and third-place Natalie George (30.39).

Francesca Bargis placed first in the 100 backstroke with a district qualifying time of 1:14.70 while teammate Sydney Swanson took second (1:19.46) and George was third with a personal best time of 1:20.01.

Sundin, Swanson, George and Coffman won the 400 free and will swim at districts after posting a time of 4:23.13.

Aleah Chen, Claire Cronin, Eislynn Flood and Francesca Bargis took third in the event with a district qualifying time of 4:49.59.

George, Swanson, Sundin and Petra Bernsten teamed to win the 200 individual medley with a district time of 2:14.71.

Bernsten, Riley Hough, Morgan Cariou and Flood won the 200 free in 2:12.88.

Sequim (3-1) will visit North Kitsap on Thursday.

Boys Tennis Sequim 7, Olympic 0

SEQUIM — The Wolves rebounded from two close Olympic League losses earlier in the week with a home sweep of the Trojans.

Italian exchange student Nico Zingaro won his third singles match of the week, going to a second-set tiebreaker to take down Olympic No. 1 singles player Zachary Wyant.

Sequim (4-3) visits North Mason (1-4) on Tuesday.
