PREP ROUNDUP: Forks soccer wins in shutout

FORKS — The Forks girls soccer team beat Ilwaco 1-0 on Monday with a goal from Miley Blanton.

“Our goalie was filled by a player who doesn’t normally play in the goal, but did amazing, Janessa Ramos,” said coach Tracy Gillette. “She was unstoppable and a great leader from the goal box.”

Ramos also assisted on Blanton’s goal.

“Every player had an awesome game,” Gillette said. “I would like to give a shout out to Marysleidy Hernandez-Beltran for taking all of our corner kicks and performing very well. I would also like to give a shout out to the Horejsi sisters, Flora and Natalie, for using their sister power to charge through the Ilwaco team.”

The win snapped a seven-game losing streak. While the Spartans have been struggling to win, all of their matches have been close, as most of their games had scores of 1-0, 2-0 or 3-1.

Forks (2-6-1, 2-8-1) next plays at 6 p.m. today at home against South Bend (3-4-0, 4-7-1).
