PREP ROUNDUP: Forks girls win Toutle Lake XC race; PT’s Cantrell wins at Twilight

TOUTLE LAKE — With three runners in the top 11 and five in the top 20, the Forks girls won the Toutle Lake Invitational cross-country meet.

The Spartans had 30 team points in Saturday’s meet, beating out Ocosta with 42 and Toledo with 48.

Madelyn Archibald led the Spartans, finishing third with a time of 22 minutes, 4 seconds. Melisa Galindo was seventh with a time of 23:13, while Karen Ensastegui was 11th with a time of 24:12.

Forks’ Kayleen Bailey was 19th with a time of 27:26 and Savannah Meyer was 20th with a time of 28:05. There were 33 girls who competed.

For the boys, Colton Duncan had the best time for the Spartans, finishing 22nd with a time of 19:55. Kasson Steffen came in 31st with a time of 20:32 and Hector Garcia Dominguez was 67th with a time of 28:32.

Forks harriers will next run at the Evergreen League meet at Hoquiam on Thursday.

PT’s Cantrell wins

MARYSVILLE — Port Townsend’s Nathan Cantrell beat out 189 other boys to win the Twilight Cross-Country Invitational held at Cedarcrest Golf Course.

Cantrell won with a time of 16:26.80, just edging out the second-place runner by 1.7 seconds. They were the only two runners who finished under 16:40.

Port Townsend as a team finished seventh out of 28 schools at the meet, with four runners in the top 52 runners.

Gabe Petrick finished 12th for the Redhawks with a time of 17:04.20.

Other Port Townsend finishes include:

Seamus Fraser, 50th, 18:04; Kincaid Gould, 52nd, 18:09.70; Silas DeWyse, 128th, 19:43.90; Ian Linn-Glasgow, 132nd, 19:49.30.

For the girls, Port Townsend’s Rachel Matthes finished 16th with a time of 20:53.20 and Anika Avelino was 26th with a time of 21:26.00.

Port Townsend will next run in a meet with Olympic and Sequim at Robin Hill on Wednesday.

Girls Volleyball

Sequim 3, Kingston 1

KINGSTON — The Wolves remained solidly in second place with a 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 19-25, 26-24) win over Kingston.

The two teams came in to the Thursday match tied for second place behind North Kitsap.

Setter Brittney Gale led the Wolves, serving 13 for 13 with 18 assists and 24 digs. Her fellow setter Kalli Wiker served 17 for 18 with four aces, 11 assists and 19 digs.

Jayla Julmist had eight stuff blocks for the Wolves to go along with seven kills. Tayler Breckenride had 13 kills, 18 digs and served 14 for 15. Libero Arlene Law served 15 for 15 with 23 digs.

Sequim (5-1, 7-1) next plays at Port Angeles (0-6, 0-7) at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.
