PREP ROUNDUP: Forks girls win 3-team track meet

TENINO — Victories in the long distance running and the jump events propelled Forks to a win in a three-team Evergreen League girls track and field meet at Tenino on Wednesday.

The Spartans totaled 99 points with Montesano second (58) and Tenino third (51).

Forks had the top three finishers in the 1,600 meter run led by Marissa Bailey’s first-place finish in six minutes, 4.78 seconds.

Enid Ensastegui won the 3,200 for the Spartans with a time of 12:59.09.

Freshman Karen Ensastegui Salazar was second in both the 1,600 (6:17.02) and 3,200 (13:04.87) for Forks.

Senior Chelsea Bicinuas won the high jump with a personal record mark of 4-06, while sophomore Macy Luong claimed the long jump (11-09.25).

Other winners for the Spartans included sophomore Madison Carlson in the 400 (1:08.89); Ella Damron in the 300 hurdles (1:00.35) and Azalea Ramos in the shot put (26-10).

Boys meet

Cole Baysinger was a dual-event winner for the Forks boys, taking the discus with a throw of 139-07 and clearing 6 feet in the high jump.

Wesley Camacho ran well in the long distance events for the Spartans taking second in the 1,600 (5:17.64) and 3,200 (11:35.04).

Montesano totaled 145 points to cruise to a team win, while Forks and Tenino tied for second with 31 points apiece.

Forks will host the Forks Lions Club Invitational on Saturday, April 14.

Girls Tennis Kingston 7, Port Angeles 0

KINGSTON — The Riders were dispatched by the Buccaneers (5-2) in an Olympic League match.

No. 3 singles player Kailey Droz was picked as player of the match by Port Angeles coach Stephanie Gochnour.

Droz dropped her first set to Kingston’s Emily Ramirez 6-3, bounced back to force a tiebreaker with a 6-4 second set victory, but fell 10-4 in the super tiebreaker.

The Riders (3-3) host North Mason on Monday, April 9.
