FORKS — Home sweet home for Forks as the Spartans triumphed 62-47 over North Beach in its home opener, a contest that doubled as Forks’ first Pacific 2B League contest of the season.
Senior Logan Olson and junior Keaton Northcutt led the way for the Spartans as Olson poured in a game-high 25 points and Northcutt added 19 points and some tight defense.
“Logan and Keaton combined for all 19 of our points in the fourth quarter,” Forks coach Rick Gooding said. “Logan hit 5 of 7 free throws and two 3s to score 10, and Keaton had the other nine.”
“Those two guys led us in points, but other guys stepped up with tips, helpside defense, rebounds, all the little things you need to do to be successful.”
Northcut and reserve Brody Lausche also had to contain a 6-foot-7 opponent.
“We were without our two big guys. Riley Pursely is out of state for the week, and Logan Urvina, one of our only kids that’s 6 feet tall, is injured,” Gooding said.
“Keaton is a guard/forward, and he really stepped up. He and Brody Lausche did a good job of guarding a 6-foot-7 guy. Brody was physical, and Keaton kept in front of him.
“And defensively, [North Beach] went zone, and Keaton was the inside threat we had to have with Logan on the outside.”
The Spartans (1-0, 1-3) played at South Bend late Thursday and are off until homes games with league favorites Ilwaco and Raymond next Wednesday and Friday, Dec. 17, respectively.

BREMERTON — The Loggers struggled against what coach Chris Ferrier described as “a really long, athletic and experienced” Warriors team.
“We were down two starters and had to push some younger guys into bigger roles than they were probably ready for,” Ferrier said. “Counter that with Crosspoint having 12 seniors, and you can see what happened. We really played really hard, but our bench is really short right now. And with those guys missing, it makes it tough to compete against a team that should be in Spokane for the state tournament.”

Olympic League Girls Meet
BREMERTON — Sequim, Port Angeles and East Jefferson wrestlers competed at the first Olympic League girls meet of the season.
East Jefferson wrestler Mi Amada Ramirez went 1-0 with a win by pin at 120 pounds.
Rivals coach Steve Grimm said 120-pounder Savannah Hoffman is ranked No. 11 in her class by Washington Wrestling Report. Hoffman wrestled up a weight class at 130 against the No. 2 135-pounder, Olympic’s Aly Templeman, but was pinned at 30 seconds. She also earned a quick pin over Bainbridge’s Alex Morrison to go 1-1 on the night.
Sequim’s reigning Olympic League girls MVP Petra Bernsten defeated East Jefferson’s Chloe Lampert via pin at 3:39 of their 140-pound match.
Lampert evened her record with a pin at 3:49 of her other match with Olympic’s Gloria Hudson.
Rhiley Pavlak earned a win for Port Angeles, taking her 120-pound contest by pin at 3:51.
Riders’ senior Kennedy Bruch posted a 14-4 win over East Jefferson’s Melody Douglas.
Other Port Angeles competitors included Octavia Smith, Julia Baeder, Willow Harvey, Natalie Johnson, Faye Dachs and Zakara Braun.

TACOMA — The Rivals boys squad claimed a Nisqually League dual meet win over the Eagles on Wednesday.
“We both had small teams, so we set up exhibitions,” East Jefferson head coach Steve Grimm said.
The Rivals won four matches by pin: AJ Stevenson at 138, Sam Lampert at 160, Logan Massie at 170 and Gage Barry at 195.
East Jefferson wrestles at Klahowya on Wednesday.
