PUYALLUP — The East Jefferson girls soccer team earned a tie and a point against Cascade Christian, but coach Robert Cantley thought the team can do better as the Rivals are gunning for a winning record and a higher playoff seed.
“Overall, it was not our best game. We had beaten them earlier in the season 4-0,” Cantley said. “We were pretty lethargic a lot of the game.”
Audrey Matthes scored the Rivals’ goal late in the first half, with an assist to Ava Shiflett. The Rivals were about 15 minutes away from possibly winning when Cascade Christian scored to tie.
The resurgent Rivals are 4-4-2 overall and 3-4-2 in the Nisqually League with two league games left. Cantley said the league is sending six teams to district and the Rivals are in fifth place with a chance to move up to fourth.
East Jefferson plays its final home game at Memorial Field at 5:30 p.m. Thursday against Vashon (11-2, 9-2). The Rivals finish on the road Monday against Annie Wright (5-5-1, 4-5-1).
Boys Tennis Sequim 7, Olympic 0
BREMERTON — The Sequim boys tennis team won in another sweep, not losing a single game in a match against Olympic on Monday.
The Wolves won four matches on the court and three by forfeit. No. 1 singles player Connor Bear won 6-3, 6-0 and No. 2 singles player Koda Robinson won 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles play, the team of Jack VanDeWege and Garrett Little won 6-1, 6-0, and the team of Kaiden Jones and Espn Judd won 6-1, 6-1. Henry Hughes won his singles match by forfeit, and the teams of William Hughes and Adrian Brown and Tyler Shefield and Isaac McKeen both won by forfeit.
Coach Mark Textor named Judd the player of the match.
Volleyball Forks 3, North Beach 0
FORKS — The Forks volleyball team improved to 7-1 in the Pacific 2B League with a 3-0 (25-7, 25-11, 25-12) win over North Beach on Monday.
Kyra Neel led the Spartans with nine kills and a block, and Elizabeth Soto added nine aces. Soto also served 25-for-27.
Kadie Wood also had nine aces to go with three kills, while setter Erika Williams had 15 assists and seven aces. Freshman Reagan Dunn, playing in her first varsity match, had a kill.
Forks (7-2, 7-1) played Tuesday against Northwest Christian.
East Jefferson JV 3, Life Christian 1
TACOMA — The East Jefferson JV team beat Life Christian 3-1 (27-25, 25-18, 14-25, 15-9) on Monday. The varsity squad did not play.
