PORT TOWNSEND — The East Jefferson volleyball team won its first match of the year Monday 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-13) against Vashon.
Alyssa Vandenberg led the Rivals with 14 digs and eight kills. Ellise Gardner had 13 aces in 19 serves and added 11 digs. Lindsey Ellingford had eight digs and an ace.
“It was a great game with positivity and a high energy level,” said coach Carrie Beebe.
Late last week, Crescent went to 6-0 on the season by beating East Jefferson 3-1 (24-26, 25-7, 25-16, 25-15) at home against East Jefferson. JoCy Kazlauskas had 15 assists and was 17-for-17 of her serves with six aces. Kaylen Mason had 12 kills and went 24-for-27 serving with 10 aces. Makiah Clark had seven kills.
East Jefferson (1-4, 1-6) plays at Life Christian (0-2) tonight.
Crescent (6-0) has a tough match at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at Neah Bay (5-1), which swept Orcas Island in two matches 3-0 and 3-1 this weekend.
Girls soccer
Ocosta 3, Forks 1
FORKS — The Forks girls soccer team lost its league opener to Ocosta 3-1.
Forks’ goal was scored by sophomore captain Miley Blanton.
“I am really proud of my entire team. This was our first league game and we have some work to do but they played hard and are starting to trust each other more. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the season goes,” said coach Tracy Gillette.
It was the second close loss in a row for the Spartans, who dropped a 1-0 game to Coupeville over the weekend.
Forks (1-3-1) next plays at Ilwaco tonight.
Boys Tennis
Sequim 4, Bremerton 3
SEQUIM — The Sequim tennis team swept the singles matches and got an important marathon doubles win from Hunter Tennell and Lincoln Bear to beat Bremerton 4-3.
Garrett Little, Espn Judd and William Hughes all won their matches in straight sets.
Sequim only had three doubles’ team, so had to forfeit one match. Aason Judd/Isaac McKeen and Jack Crecilius/Zach Post lost their doubles matches in straight sets.
So it came down to Tennell and Bear. They lost their first set 6-3 and came back to win a second set 7-5, sending the match to a tiebreaker, which Tennell and Bear won 12-10.
Coach Mark Textor named Tennell the player of the match for the Wolves.
