PREP ROUNDUP: Crescent boys move to 2-0 on the season

JOYCE — The Crescent Loggers boys basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season, getting 24 points and 10 steals from Conner Bauers in a 54-29 win over Concrete this weekend.

“This was pretty much a comprehensive, start-to-finish win for us. Our defense was really solid and our rebounding was quite strong,” said coach Chris Ferrier.

“Dom Sprague played a really solid game with 11 points and four assists and Conner Ferro-May was again very stout inside with 10 points and a bunch of rebounds,” Ferrier said. “Guys were flying all over on defense, rotating correctly and scrambling to cover for each other.”

Crescent plays Tuesday at Wishkah Valley.

FORKS — The Spartans had a chance to tie it up in the final minute with the Mountaineers, a team predicted to return to the Class 2B state tournament, in their nonleague season opener.

“We battled them down to the wire,” coach David Hurn said. “We had a chance in the fourth with the ball down three with under 30 seconds. We drew up a play that didn’t work out and they hit their free throws down the stretch.”

Hurn said he was pleased with his team’s defense and ability to attack the rim, draw contact and get to the free-throw line.

“Happy with what did defensively, rebounded well, but we didn’t shoot really well. We only hit one three.”

And Forks hit just 11 of 25 at the foul line.

“I know what we will be working on at practice,” Hurn said. “But it was a grinder of a game and a great kickoff to the season.”

Forks (0-1) jumps into Pacific League play with North Beach at home at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
