NASELLE — The Neah Bay football team, fighting injuries all season, was knocked off as defending state 1B champions in a 72-20 Quad-District playoff loss to Naselle.
The loss ends the Red Devils’ season at 5-6. Neah Bay finished the season with a playoff victory over Crescent and winning three out of its last five games after a 2-4 start to the season.
Naselle’s Cole Dorman threw for five touchdowns and had the Comets up 14-0 in the first six minutes of the game.
Neah Bay fought back with a 1-yard touchdown run by Isaiah Knaus to make it 20-6 with seven minutes left in the second quarter. That was as close as the Red Devils got all game, however, as Dorman threw another touchdown pass and Naselle returned a fumble four yards for a touchdown to make the score 36-6 at the half.
The Comets pushed the score to 44-6 behind another Dorman TD throw when Neah Bay scored on a 8-yard Knaus pass to Josey Tyree to make it 44-12.
Neah Bay got another late touchdown on a Tyree pass to Levi Swan. Colton Cummins ran in the two-point conversion for the final score of the game.

SPOKANE — The Port Angeles soccer girls lost in overtime to West Valley of Spokane in the state 2A quarterfinals Saturday.

Quilcene at State 1B Volleyball
YAKIMA — The Quilcene volleyball team won two matches and lost two matches at the state 1B tournament, finishing sixth in the state.
It was the fifth straight year the Rangers placed at state, with their highest showing fourth in 2016.
In their final match Friday, Quilcene lost the fifth/sixth place match in a close one 3-2 (24-26, 27-29, 25-11, 25-13, 15-6) to Almire Coulee Hartline. Earlier in the day, Quilcene beat Puget Sound Adventist 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-22).
The Rangers, winners of the Tri-District 1B Tournament, won their opening match Thursday against Wilson Creek 3-0 (25-19. 25-12, 25-13). They lost their quarterfinal match to Odessa on Thursday 3-0 (25-19, 27-25, 25-15). Odessa eventually finished fourth in the state.
Quilcene finishes the season with a record of 20-3.
Eastern Washington teams dominated the 1B tournament, with Oakesdale beating Pomeroy in the championship match.
All-League volleyball
PORT ANGELES — Three area players were honored by Olympic League coaches in voting for the Olympic League 1A and Olympic League 2A division all-league teams.
Sequim junior Tayler Breckenridge was a first-team selection in the 2A classification.
North Kitsap’s Rae Rosenquist was chosen as MVP, while teammate Eunice Moran was voted defensive MVP.
Port Townsend senior Alana McCleese and Chimacum junior Renee Woods were first-team picks in the 1A division.
Coupeville’s Hope Lodell was the 1A MVP, while Klahowya’s Maile Lueck was selected defensive MVP.
