PREP PLAYOFF BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: (Updated) Loggers win on the road in overtime

Conner Ferro-May scores 30 points; Naomii Sprague a near triple-double for the girls team

TACOMA — The Crescent Loggers boys basketball team went to overtime to upset Evergreen Lutheran 50-48 on Saturday in their opening game of the Tri-District 1B Tournament.

“Wow, what a tremendous effort from the guys,” said coach Chris Ferrier. “The Loggers pick up their first postseason win in a number of years, definitely the first in my eight years as the coach.”

Crescent, which entered the game as a No. 12 seed to Evergreen Lutheran’s No. 5 seed, next plays at Lummi at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“The third quarter was probably the best quarter of basketball we’ve played all season. We played unselfish basketball on both ends and pushed out to a 14-point lead,” Ferrier said. The Loggers outscored Evergreen Lutheran 20-6 in the third. The Eagles responded with a 19-5 fourth quarter to tie the game up at 40-40.

Unfortunately, the inverse happened in the fourth. We did not play well and we actually were down one with two minutes to go,” said Ferrier. “We got a big bucket and went back up one. Their big guy came down and got a [basket] and one, and they ended up back in front two. We settled down and got it inside again to Conner Ferro-May and tied the game. Then we got a stop at the end of regulation.”

“The overtime was really crazy. The Crescent fans were very vocal and the energy in the gym was electric. All four of our baskets came in the paint and we were able to stop them on the last possession and run the clock out,” Ferrier said.

Ferro-May led the Loggers with 30 points and 17 rebounds. Dom Sprague added eight points and helped orchestrate the offense along with Conner Bauers.

The Loggers are now 14-6 on the season.
