PREP NOTEBOOK: Olympic League baseball and Evergreen League boys soccer All-League teams released

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles and Sequim athletes are well-represented on the Class 2A Olympic League’s All-League baseball team in voting conducted by league coaches.

The Roughriders landed four first-team selections with senior catcher Luke Flodstrom, senior infielder Alex Angevine, senior outfielder Nathan Basden and junior pitcher Kody Williams.

Flodstrom previously signed to play baseball at Yakima Valley College next season and leads the team with a .348 batting average entering today’s state tournament contest against Tumwater at Selah, while Angevine has committed to Western Oregon. He is hitting .329, leads the team with 25 hits, five triples and 18 walks.

Basden is batting .316 and is also tied for second with 24 hits.

Seniors Josiah Gooding (Olympic College) and Rylan Politika (Skagit Valley) were second-team infield selections for the Roughriders, while senior outfielder Jordan Shumway (Olympic), junior utility player Bryce DeLeon and junior pitcher Brayden Martin also were second-team picks.

Third baseman Josiah Gooding is batting .267 and leads the team with 18 RBIs, while center fielder Jordan Shumway is hitting .242 and leads with five doubles.

Sequim senior Braydan White, an Olympic College commit, was a first-team infielder selection.

The Wolves also landed senior outfielder Ethan Staples (Olympic), infielder Bryant Laboy and pitcher Zeke Schmadeke on the second team.

Maeson Grice (Port Angeles) and Lincoln Bear (Sequim) earned team sportsmanship awards.

Bainbridge juniors Will Rohrbacher and McCrea Curfman were voted Co-MVPs.

Evergreen Soccer

FORKS — Forks senior Juan Terrones was picked as the Class 1A Evergreen League’s boys soccer goalkeeper MVP in All-Evergreen League voting conducted by league coaches.

Spartans sophomore Estevan Ramos was honored with a first-team selection at defender and seniors Mateo Lucas and DeAnthony Davila earned honorable mention.

Raymond-South Bend senior Edgar Ramirez was the Evergreen League MVP.

Montesano senior Felix Romero earned Offensive MVP, and Elma junior Matthew Wood was the Defensive MVP.

Quilcene football

QUILCENE — The Quilcene High School football team will hold a spring football meeting Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the school’s Room No. 9.

Students are asked to attend the meeting with a parent/guardian.

Topics like fundraising, the team’s annual trip to the Entiat eight-man football camp, summer workouts and the 2025 season will be discussed.

Football is open to players in grades eight through 12 in Class 1B.

Sequim swim meeting

SEQUIM — An informational meeting for the Sequim High School girls swim team will be held in the school library at 3 p.m. Friday.

The meeting will provide information on how to get cleared to participate in summer training opportunities, the training program and how to sign up for the fall prep season, which begins Aug. 25.
